Gym: Wednesday Morning

Not his usual territory, but Jack's in the gym, poking at the equipment. He's oddly attracted to the practice swords, but he's not dumb enough to try using one when he doesn't know how.

He's not exercising, he's just hanging out, but that could change.

[ooc: Open for all your gym needs! Just FYI, Jack's actually waiting for someone, and I'm on SP like woah after a few hours.]

Jack beamed back at her. "This is actually fun!" he said, brow furrowing in concentration as he did as she asked. He was slow at first, faltering as he switched to his weak side, but he got smoother after a few tries.

"I'm glad you like it," Sam said, hands on her hips, "since it's actually going to be a lot of hard work. We haven't gotten to the other punches, kicks, blocking, combinations, working without pads..."

"And I suddenly have a feeling I'm going to be very, very sore in the future," Jack laughed, stretching his arms forward and then back behind his head. "Can we start with this," he mimed a punch," for the time being?"

He stepped forward and rested his hand on Sam's shoulder. "You sure don't mind helping me?"

"Of course," she said, raising her arms to block again and smiling at Jack. "It's your first day--don't expect to be a pro overnight, unless we're keying in to something you already knew."

Sam put her glove over his. "I'm positive, Jack. It's not a waste of my time to know you can take care of yourself."

"I know - it'll take at least, oh, two or three days for me to reach pro-standard," he teased, then grinned at her. "Thanks, Sam." Jack let his hand fall from her shoulder. "I couldn't be in better hands."

"Sure you could," she admitted, "but I'll do my best. Now hit me, please," as she took her position again.

"Yes, maam," he said with a grin and stepped back, concentrating on keeping his elbow loose as he struck out at her.

It was definitely starting feel more natural.

"Yes!" Sam beamed at him as she blocked the punch. "Can you feel the difference?"

Jack grinned at her. "I don't feel like I'm going to fall on my face everytime. Let me try again?"

"As long as you want," Sam said happily, "I'm just here to be your punching bag and give criticism."

"Would an actual punching bag be helpful?" Jack asked. "Because I could use one of those instead." Smiling down at her, he added, "And if that's all you're here for, I guess the pleasure of your company is a bonus."

"No, for right now, it's good that I can feel it," Sam decided. "Once you know more, you'll move to the punching bag and work combinations."

"I guess there's no point in doing it if you can't feel it," Jack agreed innocently, resuming his stance and punching first with one arm, then the other, the transition between them much smoother than it had been.

Sam blushed slightly but couldn't duck her head, since he was punching. "Watch your back foot, Jack," Sam corrected, "and no reverse the rhythm, left arm first."

Jack complied, but didn't respond except to grin harder at the blush, needing to concentrate on what he was doing.

Sam watched him carefully. "Use your shoulder more."

Jack tried to use his shoulder a bit more than he probably should have, and wobbled a bit as he swung his next punch.

"Oh, hey, not that much," Sam said, putting her hands on his shoulders. "It should be a smooth motion. Turn from your hips to give your punch from the shoulder a little more power."

"It's all in the hips, huh?" Jack asked, swivelling his hips slightly. "I can do that."

"It's not all in the hips, Jack," Sam rolled her eyes, "but it's there somewhat."

Jack laughed when she rolled her eyes, and stepped back. "I know. But how could I possibly resist a line like that?" he asked. "Let's try again." He swung, turning from his hips and using his shoulder, and it suddenly clicked. And felt familiar.

"What's the verdict?" Sam asked. "Because it looked and felt pretty solid from where I'm standing."

"That felt better, much more natural," he said. "It also felt a bit familiar."

"Familiar? How familiar?" She tried to read the answer from his expression.

"Not very," he admitted. "Just, not entirely strange." he offered. "I was apparently taking self-defence before I disappeared - not for very long, but maybe enough that I sort of remember this, now that you're showing me how to move." He shifted from one foot to the other, looking down at his gloved hands. "It's kind of weird, actually."
