Peter had his St. George's cross flag close by as he waited impatiently for the match to begin.  England vs. Ecuador with continued participation in the World Cup at stake.

He had run down to J, GOB ostensibly to get some pastries to share for breakfast but really because he couldn't sit still any longer so there was a selection of muffins and doughnuts on one of the tables.

Now for the football to start...

Peter started laughed about halfway through the list. "So they were exceedingly gentlemanly too. Probably learned it from the British."

"I suppose it's possible." she grinned back.

"More than possible," Peter replied with a nod. "Because really..."

"You should add 'humble' to your list of things that describe English Gentlemen."

"I was considering it," Peter agreed. "But it would fall under the heading 'only about important things.' You see, humbleness and understatement is important say if one's leg is cut off. Then it's 'just a little scratch' or some such."

"I think the leg thing goes more under the heading of 'stiff upper lip' rather then being humble."

"That's all one and the same," Peter said with a wave of his hand.

Peter laughed then groaned as Ecuador brought the ball up the field.

"Come on defense! Do better then you did against Sweden!"

"Yes, DON'T let them score in the last 3 minutes. It would be TOO embarrassing," Peter pleaded with the English team. Because that was going to help.

"I'm sure they can hear us and appreciate our input." she said patting his shoulder.

Peter grinned. "It is a bit mad, isn't it? And yet, I remember listening to matches on the radio and doing the same thing."

"Like they'd hear us so much better if we were there..."

"Truly," Peter agreed. "I'm a bit shocked at just how many people are there. Can't imagine why they'd all want to go to Germany."

"To cheer their team!" Pippi chimed.

"Lots of things changed after the war there. Lots of things changed since then."

Peter nodded. "I know. It's just still too close for me. Been four years since I was out of Britain, but still."

Pippi thought about her various adventures and discussions with Walter on this subject.

"Yeah. I can understand that."

Peter glanced at Walter. "Yes, I suppose you can. I should try to keep comments about Germany to a tactful minimum anyway, hmm? Wouldn't want to offend somebody."

"The only person I know is from Germany around here would be Mr. Wagner, he's the liberarian. Blue guy, makes a 'bamphy' noise and teleports around. He's actually quite nice."

"I met him one afternoon, I think," Peter said with a nod. "He seemed fairly kind though there was no teleporting when I was around."

"Really? He's always doing it when I see him. He'll be like, 'Oh! Did I leave the oven on?' and then BAMPH! And then BAMPH AGAIN! And he's like, 'No! Fuck it, I'm a squirrel!'"
