Second Floor Common Room, Sunday Morning

Conner bolted back upstairs after basketball practice and got ready for the World Cup final. As a result of his conversation with Nadia from Friday, he was dressed -- if one could call it that -- for the occasion in what was essentially an Italian-flag loincloth, and red, green, and white body paint.

Nobody was in the second floor common room, so he hijacked it for the cool TV and got comfortable (standing, because body paint) before the game started.

France vs. Italy. Plus, Julie Foudy at halftime. Last night might have been a fiasco, but today life was good.

Pip poked his head in after finishing making crepes for everyone. "You. Why do you wear the colors of the heathen nation?"

"Because it was Nadia's idea?" Conner suggested.

Pip's eye narrowed. That figured. "That is not a correct answer."

Okay, new tactic: lie. "Because I'm actually rooting for France, but when I paint myself in a team's colors I end up jinxing them?"

"Hey, again, Pip."

"Greetings, traitor to the light," Pip said chanelling Prince Arthas.

"Oh, I'm evil, I know."

"Apparently if I say that I'm rooting for Italy, I get to see your eye twitch," Ivanova said lightly, flopping down nearby.

Nadia wandered through, actually looking for Conner, since she knew he'd be watching the game. She grinned at what he was wearing.

"That's a good look for you."

She herself was rather modestly dressed (for her), in shorts and a white tank top, though she did have flags painted on both arms.

"Hey, Nadia! Thanks." Conner grinned back. "I was actually going to try the fig-leaf thing, but it had a tendency to flap up at bad times, and I hear they make you do perform on stage if you get caught naked in the common rooms."

"Probably a good plan, then. You've got the spirit of the fig leaf down, anyway."

"Hey, somebody needs to represent the hooligan faction, right?"

Peter wasn't wearing the colours of either country, but he wanted to watch the final match of the World Cup anyways. He waved as he entered the Common Room. "Afternoon, everyone."

"Hey, Peter. You rooting for anyone?"

"England?" Peter replied with a grin. "But in their absence, I'm thinking I'll cheer against France."

Nadia sighed. "Well, okay. But I'm afraid I'm rooting against you, then," Nadia pointed to the Italian flag on her shoulder.

"Hi Peter," Pip said, nodding.

"Afternoon, Pip," Peter replied with a nod. "I got your message, but I was - err - out of town all week so I couldn't let Dr. Oliver know you were ill. I'm sorry."

"Oh? Don't worry about it. No big deal. I'm sure I didn't miss anything too big, and it's not like a one time absence will kill my academic record. Where d'ya go?"

"Hey, Peter," Conner said, unaware of any severe damage done to his reputation last night.

"Conner," Peter said with a nod. "How goes it?"

"Apparently I have some serious, hardcore apologizing to do, but I'm putting it off until after the game," Conner replied. "Is everyone here but Pip rooting against France?"

Apparently something big was going on.

Having just been in the future for the last two months, Ivanova had no idea what that something was. She poked her head in. Oh, soccer. There were never any good Russian teams, at least not in the last couple hundred years.

"What are my options?" she grinned, moving in and taking in the flag-loincloth and the body paint littering the room with a raised eyebrow. "And why the hoopla?"
