Willow made herself comfortable on the couch as she set about doing her reading.

She had books on beavers and was prepared to shake them down for as much information as was possible.

Yes, she was taking notes.

Yes, she had the highlighters handy.

She was still interruptable, however.

Bel wandered into the common room of his new floor. "Hey, Willow," he said, poking his head into the fridge to see what was available for consumption.

"Hey, Bel," Willow said. "How's it going?"

"Phoebe and I are the newest residents of this floor," Bel said. He found a Mountain Dew in the fridge and absconded with it. "We just moved down last night."

"Yay!" Willow said, actually clapping. "It really is the best floor of all. I don't know what everyone's talking about with 2 supposedly being so special."

"We're right down the hall from you in 518/520," Bel said, jerking his thumb in the direction of the room. "And, yeah, fifth is the best. Especially now." He grinned.

"Some of us felt fifth was always the best," Willow replied. "But you may feel free to guild this lily."

"Consider it guilded," Bel said. He peered at Willow's books. "Working on homework?"

"Reading about beavers," Willow said, proudly.

Bel blinked and bit back a comment. "Beavers?" he asked.

"Small furry animals?" Willow prompted, holding her hands up to indicate size. "Have flat tails and like to build dams that are not the rude kind?"

"I know what beavers are," Bel said, struggling not to snicker like a 12-year-old. "What are you studying them for?"

Willow tried to look innocent. "Doesn't everyone find them fascinating?"

"I've seen my share of some that I could say that about," Bel said with a straight face.

"Really?" Willow asked. She picked up her notebook. "Do you have any advice about meeting them?"

Bel had been taking a drink of his soda and started to cough and choke.

"You okay?" Willow asked.

"I'm fine," Bel sputtered. "Just swallowed wrong."

"Need me to get you some water?" Willow offered.

"I'll be fine," Bel said, clearing his throat. "Um, anyway. Meeting beavers, huh? Why do you want to do that?"

"Doesn't everyone?" Willow replied. She really needed a better cover story.

"Can't say that I've run into anybody else talking about it like that," Bel said. "Are you...looking for something in particular from beavers?"

"Say hi?" Willow shrugged. "Discuss their beavery lifestyles in non-offensive or war-causing methods. The usual."

"Can't say that I've heard of people wanting to talk to beavers," Bel said seriously. "Maybe play with them or pet them, but they don't usually talk back."

"That just means the odds of it happening are getting better all the time," Willow said.

"Do you...speak Beaver?" Bel said, still doing his best not to snicker.
