Dean was ensconced in front of the tv, plenty of unhealthy snacks within easy reach. On the tv was something with a lot of car chases and explosions. Perfect for mindless viewing.

"Thanks," Dean said with a smile. "And hey, I'm sure Buffy will be back soon."

"I think so. Her e-mail didn't say anything about exactly when she'd be coming back." He smirked at Dean. "Not that we'll be getting close to where you and Dawn are."

"Not with that attitude you won't. You gotta think positive, Sammy."

It took a second for Sam to realize what Dean meant. "Oh, I'm not worried that she won't want to...you know."

"Then what's the problem?"

"I don't know if I want to," Sam quietly admitted, waiting to see how badly Dean would tease him.

Dean stared at his brother. "Why?"

"It's not that I haven't thought about it, because I have. It's just...complicated," he said, hoping Dean would accept the vague answer.

"Complicated," Dean echoed. Sometimes he just didn't understand his brother at all. "What's so complicate about it?"

Sam sighed and tried to remember how he had explained this to Dawn. She seemed to accept it, so... "Okay, I like Buffy, a lot. She's really sweet, and I'm certainly not blind to the fact that she's gorgeous. But I don't know if care enough about her to want to have sex with her."

Dean stared at him for a moment. "You're going to be all touchy and feely about this sort of thing aren't you?" he asked, but not unkindly.

"Every single time I do it? Probably not. But my first time?" Sam shrugged. "I know, you think I'm being an idiot."

"No I don't," Dean said quickly.

Sam looked back up at him. "Really?"

"Really. Just because I went the one night stand route doesn't mean I think you have to," Dean said. "Well, maybe if we were still travelling with Dad where that's pretty much all there's a chance for, but... it's different here."

"It is different here," Sam agreed. "I mean, I don't know if I'll be having sex before Dad decides to pull us out, but...how come you're always teasing me about it then?"

"You mean besides the fact that I'm your brother and it's my job to tease you?"

Sam rolled his eyes and laughed in spite of himself. "Besides that, yes. I know it shouldn't, but the thought of having sex just kind of freaks me out. I'm worried I'll suck at it the first time and then never have any sex again."

"Y'know they don't actually make you take a vow of celibacy if you don't get it right your first time," Dean told him, only half joking. "And see, that's why I keep bringing the subject up and tease you about it. Because yeah, sex can be big and important and full of meaning and all that, but it's also supposed to be fun. You keep forgetting that last part and tying yourself up in knots over the rest."

"Is it too much to ask for it to be fun and mean something?" Sam sighed lightly. "I know I shouldn't get as worked up as I do. I guess it doesn't help when it seems like everyone else is having sex except for me."

"Your first time will mean something because it's your first time," Dean told him. "If you concentrate on having fun and making sure your partner is having fun, the meaning will take care of itself. And even one night stands can mean something. And you're not the only one not having sex. It probably just seems that way because you were in Seahorse." He grinned and winked at his brother.

Sam nodded seriously. "If it wasn't for you, I definitely wouldn't have belonged in Seahorse. And how can you say that one night stands mean something? I mean, it clearly can't matter than much if you only do it with the person once."

Dean raised an eyebrow. "You think my first time didn't matter that much or mean anything?"

"Well, no. I mean, I do think it mattered," Sam said, backtracking as best he could. "That's different, because like you said, your first time always means something..."
