3rd Floor Common Room, Sunday Night

Angela had spent most of the weekend holed up in her room, deliberately working her way through a Francesca Lia Block anthology and emerging only to sip oversweetened coffee and gaze soulfully at fruit salad.

But all good things must come to an end. Which is why she was in the common room, watching an I Love the 90's marathon on VH-1 and hoping someone would tell her she doesn't look that goofy.

Company would be welcome.

Joxer shook his head. "I'm not evil," he said. "My dad, well, probably. And maybe my brother Jett. But they're still family, you know? Even if one's a Warlord and one's an assassin."

"Family's so important," Angela said, shrugging and deciding to just act if this was all really normal, because, hey, Fandom. "Like, my parents were getting a divorce? Now they aren't, but when they were I really tried not to take sides."

Joxer nodded. "Taking sides in the family is a bad idea. That's how you," he coughed, "end up getting sent off to a school far, far away."

Angela snorted. "Yeah. Where are you from, anyhow?"

"Greece," Joxer said. "About a few thousands years ago, I think. Troy hasn't fallen yet, if that gives you any idea."

"That's crazy," Angela said. "So are you from the same time as Callisto?"

"Close," Joxer said. "But not exactly." He smiled. "How about you? Where are you from?"

"Pittsburgh, about ten years ago," Angela said. "So, I'm not as far from home as a lot of people are."

Joxer scratched his head. "I'm not sure where that is, but I'm sure it's nice," he said.

"It's okay," Angela shrugged. "Boring next to Fandom. No zombies or anything."

Joxer tapped his nose with a finger and pointed up. "Good point. We have centaurs and stuff back home, so I guess the zombies and stuff aren't much of change. But it's definitely more fun here than there."

"Centaurs are real?" Angela asked, only a little surprised. "Huh. I always thought they were a myth, like pegasus."

"Hey, I'm pretty sure Ares himself sent me here," Joxer said. "There's a lot that's actually real from that time."

"Ares is a god, right?" Angela asked. "That's weird. I wonder when they went away."

"I've been wondering the same thing," Joxer said. He glanced around. "I should probably get back to looking for Kaylee. It was nice meeting you, Angela."

"Good to meet you too," Anhgela said, turning to dip her donut in fudge sauce.
