2nd Floor Common Room [Wednesday Evening]

Okay, so hot weather + cold beverages = OTP.

Which is why Bridge had spent the morning before his workshop working on a slushy machine. Which he'd now dragged out to the common room in order to find people who would be willing to test it out.

He's also got his laptop perched on a table, for... no reason at all. Really. It's not like he's expecting to hear from someone about something.

"Yup. I wholly approve of the slushy machine. So, what's up?"

"I got a cool new jacket," Anders said with a bit of a dorky grin. "Too bad it's summer, and way too hot to wear it."

"Hey." Z gestured to her SPD uniform. "Don't talk to me about too hot for a jacket. I think this thing is wool."

"Oh yeah," Anders said sheepishly. "It sucks that you guys are required to wear uniforms all the time. Don't they have something more suited for summer in the dress code? Oh wait, that'd be budget restrictions leading to lack of iconage. Right."

"Well, I figure Bridge isn't going to tattle on me, so sometimes I just say 'forget it' and wear my regular clothes. But I don't have a lot of those, and they're all in the wash right now."

"Your secret is safe with me too," Anders promised. "In the really, really, really unlikely event that I ever get questioned about it."

"Thanks, I appreciate it." Z picked at her jacket and said, "I guess I could have left the jacket in my room..."

"Well, what's stopping you from taking it off right now?" Anders wondered.

"Low budget leading to lack of iconage Hey, you're right," Z realized. She set down her slushy and stripped out of her jacket, tossing it on a vacant chair and leaving her in a white t-shirt and her uniform pants. "Ahh, much better."

Dear God! An icon! "Just remind 'em you'd be no use to SPD with heat stroke," Anders pointed out.

Sometimes I get lucky like that "Well, see, my boss is a reptile, so I don't think he really grasps the concept of 'heat stroke' so well."

"Damn. It sounded like a good strategy for a while there."

"Maybe I can get Medical to, like, give him a pamphlet on it or something."

"Maybe if you ask the right people at the clinic in town, you can come up with something," Anders added. "Just don't ask the guy who works on Saturday nights."

"I've never been to the clinic. What's wrong with the guy who works Saturday nights?"

"Well, he's kind of a jerk. I brought Seras into the clinic one night when she was unconscious and also a boy, and he was all asking me questions about my boyfriend and telling me I must be afraid of commitment and stuff like that." Anders's expression clearly indicated that he was still kind of traumatized by the whole thing.

"That's terrible. What a jerk. I'm also guessing Seras's being unconscious had to do with her being a boy?"

"Well, no, the unconsciousness had to do with the tentacles. I have no idea what gave her the plumbing swap."

"See, I'm thinking suddenly being a boy for some reason would be enough to make me unconscious.

...tentacles?"

"Demon," Anders said offhandedly. He couldn't figure out why being a boy would be enough to render someone unconscious, personally.

"Nope, demon. Maybe an alien demon, possibly, but the demon part is all I know."

"See, where I come from, it's usually aliens. But I think there have been demons a time or two. Or, y'know, evil space ninjas."

Anders had been in Fandom long enough, and heard enough from Conner (wherever the frak he was tonight), to not be surprised about the aliens or demons. But that last bit?

"Evil space ninjas are real?"
