First Floor Lobby [Tuesday afternoon after workshops]

The package he'd been waiting for from home had finally arrived. He sent a ~~handwavy~~ email to his flight workshop students, and then dragged his television down to the lobby and set it so a brilliantly lit planet floated in the center of the room. It then began cycling through a series of photographs of the planet.

He returned to his room and came back with the contents of the package: food from home. Sand cookies, pies, teas made from leaves and not random alien colons (unless you really wanted alien colon tea), candy from Alderaan and Naboo, the works.

He turned on what Obi-Wan had assured him was the latest in Coruscanti music and kicked back on the couch.

If everyone in the school couldn't come to Coruscant, he'd bring Coruscant to them.

"Not for everyone, but, for me, it was very similar." Sakurazaki smiled a little at the familiarity of the situation as Anakin described it. "The only time I wasn't at the temple was when I was doing my protector duties or going on special field training missions."

Anakin grinned. "Exactly. Did you have an individual Master in charge of your training, or were you taught in groups?"

"Mostly in groups, although I did do a little bit of more concentrated studying with Aoyama-sensei ~~in fangirl Akamatsu speculations~~. How about your training?"

"Small groups when we're very young," Anakin said, neglecting to mention he'd mostly skipped that part. "One on one training once we've demonstrated the necessary skills and temperment to become a fully trained Jedi. We are assigned a Master when we become Padawans--" he touched at the braid hanging from behind his ear, "--and work with them until the Council decides we are trained well enough to become Jedi Knights. The process takes a few decades."

Sakurazaki nodded, positively engrossed. "The Shinmei Ryuu is not quite as structured as that; I'd probably only need a few more years to become a master myself if I didn't have...other...things to take care of instead. You could say we take two paths in our training. One is to continue to train others; the other, the one I'm on, is to actually impliment our training in the world..."

Talking about it almost made her regret the things she'd said last night about giving it up. Anakin was reminding her of all the hard work, the honour, the purpose of it all.

"We do both," Anakin said. "Implementing our training while training others." He thought back to a few of his adventures with Obi-Wan. "On-the-job training, if you will. When you become a Knight, you don't have to take a Padawan right away. Depending on their species, some Masters will train two, three, even five or six other Jedi in the course of their lives."

Anakin snagged a cookie from the platter. "You're allowed to leave the order?" he asked, intrigued. "Take care of other things?"

"Well, I was always a bit of a....special case," Sakurazaki turned her eyes away. "I'm bound to it for life, unless...circumstances change. But I take a lot of outside jobs, with other affiliates. Like this next week, I actually won't be here, because I'll be back in Japan, working with a...friend."

Anakin didn't want to press her on something she obviously didn't want to talk about. "We're the opposite," he said. "It's almost unheard of to leave the Order. In the entire history of the Jedi--and it goes back for 25 millennia--only 20 Jedi have ever left after becoming Knights."

"That's...quite an impressive track record..." Sakurazaki couldn't even imagine twenty of the people she'd trained with sticking with the Shinmei Ryuu past a certain level.

Anakin shrugged. "It's a way of life," he said.
