Gym - Early Monday morning

Molly had promised Zuko a demonstration of her strength yesterday. So, she had stopped by his room at the agreed upon time in order to show him the way to the gym.

Walking into the gym, she was glad to see it was still empty. "Good. No one else is here yet." She turned to Zuko. "This is the gym. People come here to work out and exercise and practice sports and stuff."

"You don't believe in your king?"

"We don't have a king."

Zuko frowned. "Queen?"

Molly shook her head. "My country doesn't have any kind of monarchy. We are ruled by a president who is elected for four years and can be re-elected for another four."

"That is ridiculous," Zuko decided.

Molly grinned. "Sometimes. But, it is all we have."

"What happened to the royal family?" he asked. "If there is no heir, surely there is a brother or uncle to take the throne."

"Our ancestors rebelled against the king that ruled over them more than two hundred years ago," Molly told him. "There is still a queen in England, that's a country across the ocean. That's the country that used to rule here."

"You rebelled? And the queen hasn't crushed you yet?" he shook his head.

Molly grinned. "Nope. We're much too strong now."

Zuko narrowed his eyes. "You can't have a country without a king."

Molly raised an eyebrow at him. "Over two hundred years of nationhood would prove that that's not true."

Zuko laughed. "My family has reigned for at least ten times that long. You'll be proven wrong."

Molly sighed. "Y'know, just because a monarchy works for you, doesn't mean no other form of government will work at all." Even if she did think most politicians were only out for themselves, she would still defend the system.

Zuko just looked amused. "Who elects your leaders?"

"The people do," Molly said. "Everyone who votes anyway."

"The people? Even the peasants and beggars?" Zuko raised an eyebrow. Even the water tribe wasn't that dumb.

Molly nodded. "Anyone over 18 who can prove that they are a citizen of this country can vote."

This country was messed up. Zuko just shook his head.

Molly shrugged. She really didn't care about politics. As long as things didn't get messed up too badly anyway.

She looked around the gym. "You want to try out any of the equipment?"

"I normally don't need this kind of equipment to train with," Zuko said.

"How do you train?" Molly asked. "Do you have to make fire when you do?"

"I can move through the stances without it," Zuko replied with a frown. "Would it be a problem if I used fire?"

"In here, yeah probably," Molly said. "It might make anybody else in the gym nervous. But, possibly..." She thought for a moment, then nodded. "You could probably practice in the salle. That is where the people who use swords practice with their real weapons instead of the practice blades they use in here."
