Third Floor Common Room, Tuesday morning

Walter was cooking breakfast and making a list. So far he had a remarkable array of eggs cooked in different styles, a loaf's worth of toast, far too many sausages, and a few boxes of cereal sitting out next to a gallon of milk.

You'd think he was cooking for more than himself. While he worked, a small black puppy scampered at his feet apparently trying to stab a paper ball with a pencil held in his teeth.

The list was for Mary Poppins, who had somehow thought that he'd volunteered as her Teacher's Assistant.

He knew there had to be more than that. He'd keep working on it.

"College," Xander answered. "Which... is weird. Not exactly where I expected I'd be going, a year ago."

Walter cocked his head. "What changed? Fandom or something else?"

Xander frowned thoughtfully. "I don't know. Not like Willow didn't always try to convince me I could. Just now, I guess I finally believe her. So... me, I suppose."

"If that's a good thing, then congratulations? What would you have done otherwise?"

"I'm thinking a fascinating and high-paying career at someplace with a drive-through window. Or I was around spring of last year."

"College sounds more interesting. I heard you were an excellent teacher in Scoobying."

Xander grinned. "Honestly I mostly taught 'em how to be silly, and most of them knew that already. But it was definitely fun."

"I know Nadia was always happy to go to class, so you did well as far as I can tell," Walter said then started gathering dirty dishes into a pile. "It was good talking to you, Xander, but I should start cleaning up before I have to get to work."
