Third Floor Common Room, Tuesday morning

Walter was cooking breakfast and making a list. So far he had a remarkable array of eggs cooked in different styles, a loaf's worth of toast, far too many sausages, and a few boxes of cereal sitting out next to a gallon of milk.

You'd think he was cooking for more than himself. While he worked, a small black puppy scampered at his feet apparently trying to stab a paper ball with a pencil held in his teeth.

The list was for Mary Poppins, who had somehow thought that he'd volunteered as her Teacher's Assistant.

He knew there had to be more than that. He'd keep working on it.

Tyler wandered into the common room, not looking like he'd slept much. He took several sausages. "Hey, Walter. You made all this?"

Walter looked up from his list and nodded. "Hey, Tyler. Yeah. I haven't cooked in a while and I thought the new people might get sick of Quik Stop burritos."

Apparently Anders had that free-food instinct, as he wandered up a floor with his yo-yo in hand. Maybe it was appropriate, however unwittingly, that he was trying to get the hang of a trick called the Double Gerbil possibly dirty and making a pretty big mess of it.

"Hey, Walter," he said a bit distractedly. "Hiya, Pup."

Walter cocked his head at Anders and watched him play with his yo-yo not dirty. "Hey. Are you trying a yo-yo trick or trying to figure out how people once hunted with those?"

"Anders!" Stark waved a hello, then gave him an odd look. "What are you doing?"

It was definitely the free food instinct that sent Peter down to the third floor. Quite possibly combined with the English free food instinct. "Good morning, Walter. How do you do?"

"Good morning, Peter. I'm well." He waved toward the tea cozy. "Tea there for someone who can properly appreciate it. How are things for you?"

Upstairs smelled like breakfast. Or at least it did when Stark was close enough to the stairs to smell it. Naturally he had to find the source of the breakfasty smell.

"Hello, Walter. What did you make today?"

Walter looked up from his paper and smiled. "Good morning, Stark. Just eggs, sausage, and toast." He pointed to the tea cozy. "And tea. How are you?"

It was more of the sound of food being made that got the twins out of bed adn down the hall to see exactly what was being made in their floor's common room.

"Good morning, new kids. Come have some breakfast. I'm Walter."

The puppy scampered over to the boys and jumped up, six gleaming red eyes shining up at them.

"And that's Pup. He won't bite."

Carmela wanders in to the common room, drawn, like many of the others, by the lure of free food.

"People!" she greets.

"New person!" Walter greeted in return. "Food?"

Pup trotted over to meet another new person. He was getting terribly wound up from all the attention and was wagging himself into a happy frenzy.

Xander stopped in with a laundry basket under his arm and a look of vague dazedness on his face. "Food? Also, people. Hello both."

Schrodinger leapt into the room and onto the back of a couch, leaning over Walter's shoulder. "I smell food!"

Walter looked back at the catboy-who-knew-him-when and nodded. "Good morning. Help yourself."

Pete had spent the entire day yesterday figuring out how to play nursery rhymes on his touchtone phone. Only the desire to eat and the realization that without his piece he couldn't go hunting, nor would people probably approve of him building a campfire and roasting a rabbit in his room, drew him out and into the common room.

He sneered at Walter as he went by. "Helloooooooo, Walter,"

It was a general Fandom rule that whenever there was a common room with someone cooking in it, people showed up. Alphonse was no exception to this rule. He waved to all the occupants in the room. "Hey all!"

Nadia was still in an odd mood after her conversation with Jamie the night before, and was moving somewhat on autopilot.

Furrball was dogging her heels the whole way to the third floor, where she followed the scent of eggs.

"Mmm, food."

Food! That was always a sure-fire lure for Skif. He'd gotten up early, as usual, but he still hadn't figured out where the kitchens here were. But this? This was food, obviously. He made a beeline for the food, but paused to look at some of the other people, none - except for Anders - that he knew.
