Third Floor Common Room, Tuesday morning

Walter was cooking breakfast and making a list. So far he had a remarkable array of eggs cooked in different styles, a loaf's worth of toast, far too many sausages, and a few boxes of cereal sitting out next to a gallon of milk.

You'd think he was cooking for more than himself. While he worked, a small black puppy scampered at his feet apparently trying to stab a paper ball with a pencil held in his teeth.

The list was for Mary Poppins, who had somehow thought that he'd volunteered as her Teacher's Assistant.

He knew there had to be more than that. He'd keep working on it.

"That would require me to have parents," Schrodinger sing-songed. "Which I don't. The Doctor made me. I think the term he used was chimera."

"Really? Like one of those monster things you read about in dime novels?" Pete grinned suddenly. "Very interesting!"

"Yep!" Schrodinger said. "Just like that! I was made by scientists!"

"Was there a lightning storm involved? I've always wondered if mad scientists really required lightning."

Schrodinger appeared to think about this. "There might have been, but I don't know. I mean, do you remember much about your birth?"

"Well, no, there is that. Did they make you as a child, then? Must've been terrible teasing growing up."

"Not really that I remember," Schrodinger said. "There was for a while, but then Cap straightened 'em out."

"Ohhhhhhh. What'd he do, then?"
