Third Floor Common Room, Tuesday morning

Walter was cooking breakfast and making a list. So far he had a remarkable array of eggs cooked in different styles, a loaf's worth of toast, far too many sausages, and a few boxes of cereal sitting out next to a gallon of milk.

You'd think he was cooking for more than himself. While he worked, a small black puppy scampered at his feet apparently trying to stab a paper ball with a pencil held in his teeth.

The list was for Mary Poppins, who had somehow thought that he'd volunteered as her Teacher's Assistant.

He knew there had to be more than that. He'd keep working on it.

"Oh no, not everyone. Wizards, and the lucky few who know that wizards exist." Carmela clarifies. "And I don't mind at all, really. I like figuring things out, myself, so I'm the same way sometimes."

Walter nodded and smiled. "Then I'll keep asking questions. You can tell me to stop anytime. Do wizards where you're from have a special place where they can get wizardly things? I know there's a place called Diagon Alley in London. We went there this spring."

"Ahhh, I know that Senor Carl- who is one of my brother's, well, mentors I guess- sells timeslides? I'm not entirely sure there are wizardly stores, though. At least, there are none that he's ever told me about."

Walter grinned. "You know I'm just going to ask you what a timeslide is now."

"A piece of time. Like, lets say you are a teenage wizard and you need to go do a very important job- one that might take you a week or so. But you've got school, right? And your parents will certainly notice if you up and disappear. So Carl can sell you a piece of time, and you anchor that before you leave... then when you transit back, there you are, right when you left."

"It would be nice to control that, since it sort of randomly happens around here," Walter said, thinking of Nadia's year away. "I find that time at home seems to move along with time here, even though it's more than sixty years in the past."
