The Roof, Wednesday Evening

Dawn was on the roof, reading as the sun went down, then just standing and feeling the wind and rain kick up. She loved the wild weather and energy before a storm, and who cared if she got a little wet?

She was spinning in circles as the rain started to fall.

Lyra missed the roofs of Jordan college, so much that even though it was raining, she climbed out one of the windows that had a ledge, and pulled herself up over the roof's edge.

It wasn't until she was already on the roof and soaked that she realized there was another person up there. Too bad it was too dark to see who.

"Uh, hullo?" she called.

Dawn stopped spinning and took a minute so she didn't fall over. "Hi!" She squinted, but didn't recognize the voice. "Who's there?"

Lyra stepped a tiny bit closer to the edge of the roof, just enough so that the lights from the ground lit her face.

"Lyra Belacqua. I don't think we've met."

Dawn stepped into the same light. "No, we haven't. Hi, I'm Dawn. Dawn Summers. Nice to meet you."

Nadia wandered up to the roof, for once without her guitar or any brownies.

The roof in the rain held very good memories, after all.

"Oh, hi, I didn't know someone else would be up here."

"Hey. Yeah, it's a rain thing."

"Understood. It's nice that the heat is starting to die down, but I'm sad to see summer go."

"Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about new classes and winter coming." Dawn tilted her head back. "So what brings you to the roof?"

Angela nodded a greeting to Nadia. "I've missed the rain."

Nadia turned her face up to the sky. "Yeah, me too."

Angela fluttered her fingers through the water. "Maybe it'll clean out my head. I'm all ...thinky."

Angela climbed up on the roof, just to think.

The light rain dripping on her head matched her mood.

"Hey you," Marty said appearing out of nowhere and slipping his arms around Angela's waist. "You okay?"

Angela leaned back against him. "Do I look not okay?," she asked, not answering.

"Possibly. You might have a glum look about you," Marty said holding her close. "Unfortunately I'm fresh out of cheesecake."

JD has made his way up to the roof, finding the bustle of the common room simply did not match his mood. His carefully gelled hair quickly became wet and mildly slimy as the rain fell on it. If he stayed out here long enough, he'd likely start to look like a drowned rat. This was fine with him.

He was in full-on woobie mode.

Finding a corner a bit farther away from the rest of the group, JD took a seat, watching the rain fall glumly.

Why do girls have to be so damn weird.

"Hi," Marty said giving the new guy a wave. "New around here?"

JD looked up at the new face. He smiled wanly, doing his best.

"Yeah, name's JD. I'm a freshman."

"I'm Marty. Welcome to Fandom," he replied with a grin. "Wet night to be hanging on the roof. You okay, man?"

Angela glanced at what looked like a new student, and a pretty emo one at that.

"Hey, new person."

JD smiles half-heartedly.

"You too, I assmume not-so-new-person."

"I've been here a year next week," Angela said, shrugging. "Have you gotten the full weird-things rundown yet?"
