Third Floor Common Room, Friday Afternoon

WIth no classes today, the twins lounged in the common room. Hikaru was eatting popcorn and watching the Z FIles while Kaoru sat to the side, making what must have sounded like strange barking as he looked over his Cross Species Communications vocabulary packet.

"I thought you could," Walter said seriously. "From what I've seen of you, you aren't the wilting flower type."

The woman who'd done radio hadn't sounded nearly young enough to be Alanna's daughter, even if Alanna had started on a family very, very early. "You said that Faithful did radio last night with your daughter. Is that part of it? You can tell me to push off if I get too personal," he added.

Alanna nodded. "From the future. She's a teacher. And older than me right now. Fandom: breaking your brain one unknown relative at at time." "I don't know, don't ask me." Faithful answered in a catch all.

"I understand that feeling," Walter said thinking of his own brushes with his future. "Although not with any children I might have. I didn't like it at all."

Alanna nodded. "Kids aren't part of my plan. Just...uh...yeah. So would you be interested in coming back to self defense?" Topic change, who Alanna?

Walter nodded as though they'd been speaking of this all along. "If it isn't Tuesday or Thursday I could do it. I work those nights."

"It's Thursday, sorry."

Walter looked a bit disappointed, but shrugged. "I'll stop in if the restaurant is closed if you'll be allowing drop-ins like last semester."

"I don't have a problem with drop-ins and our faculty sponsor is Mr. Winchester." Alanna paused. "Think we'll get a protest too?"

Walter laughed and shook his head. "I don't think so, but Blair might want to have a night on 'talking it out' as the best defense."

Alanna rolled her eyes. "Fine, when there's an angry guy on a horse intent on chopping his head off with his axe, he can talk it out. I'll stab."

Walter nodded vehemently. "I'm on your side for that. If someone wearing a Nazi uniform points a gun at me, I'm not going to talk it out, I'm going to kill him."

"That's why you and I are sane and alive and Blair is going to get himself in some serious trouble."

Sane? Walter smirked a little at that. "At least Blair doesn't go looking for fights, but yeah, life's not always going to be flowers and peace for him."

Alanna nodded. "He'll learn."

"Right. And on to other things than Blair's perpetual delusion." But not back to the subject Alanna had changed away from. "How are you finding your classes?"

"By walking." Alanna said dryly, but her lips twitched a little.

"I'll have to try that," Walter said seriously. "Do you think you'll like them?"

"Yup. Ethics is... going to be interesting. And if Blair protests Hunting again, I'll find myself in detention for hitting a student. Other than that, all good."

"I hear Ethics is an in demand class this semester. I'm not surprised Arthur didn't sign me up for it; he's not especially interested in ethics.

"And I'll keep an eye open for you if Blair protests again, to help keep you out of trouble."

"You'll probably have to resort to physical force."

"I'll pick up Blair and carry him away if I have to. Just because I spent almost every Summer weekend in detention doesn't mean I recommend it for others."

Alanna laughed. "Thanks. I ... spent about two years in our equivolent of detention. But then again, so did everyone else."

Walter tilted his head, looking interested. "Everyone? Why is that?"

"Just the way of life. Plus, um, my friends and I weren't the type to follow every rule. Even if one of them was the son of the Prime-Minister and the other was the Crown Prince."

"That sounds very familiar," Walter said, laughing a little. "A privileged background hardly guarantees good behavior."
