5th floor common room, Saturday evening

After handwavily planning things with the other sophomores, Tyler's put up a bunch of posters and ordered pizzas of all sorts. He's even managed a tie, and he's sitting with his hands in his pockets watching the door.

He's not exactly nervous of anything except no one showing up.

[OOC: Open, especially for sophomores, and this is post-detention. There is OCD for candidate speeches.]

Molly tried to hide a slight grin, deciding not to remark on Chad's mistake further. "I had him last year. He's a good teacher. I learned a lot about archaeology."

"Do you have a particular interest in archaeology, or was it just something fun to look into?"

"Something fun," Molly said with a shrug. "I was also taking Paleontology and thought the two classes would go well together."

"Did they?" Chad imagined they would have, but one could never tell.

Molly grinned and nodded. "I now know the proper way to excavate anything, whether it is bones or artifacts."

"I'm sure that will be useful skill to have."

Chad didn't mean it to be sarcastic at all, but, after he said it, he worried that maybe it had sounded that way. He really hoped not...

Molly grinned. "Not really. I mean, if I wanted to be an archaeologist or a paleontologist, sure. But, I don't. I'd kind of been hoping to learn more about actual dinosaurs in Paleontology," she explained, "which we did a little, but not as much as I'd hoped. And, like I said, I took archaeology because they just seemed to go together."

Chad nodded, and then tilted his head. "Did you actually get to see any real dinosaurs, as well as learn about them?"

Hey. Earlier that week, he'd been a photon. It seemed entirely possible around here.

"We got to feed some robotic dinosaurs and we got to go on a field trip to this place that had real dinosaurs I think, the trip ended up pretty handwavey for me. But, I have a f-friend back home who has a genetically engineered dinosaur so I actually get to see one all the time."

"Ah." Chad wished he could have been that lucky. Like any normal boy, he had a pretty decent obsession with dinosaurs when he was a kid. Anything that would be considered big to even him was worthy of attention in his book.

"She's not, like, a real-real dinosaur because she doesn't try to eat us or anything. But, she's still pretty cool."

"The dinosaur is a she?"

It amused Chad emmensely; the image in his head was of a T-Rex with a bow. A blue bow, though, not a pink one. Pink would have been too cliche.

Molly nodded. "Her name is Old Lace and she is a Deinonychus. We thought she was a Velociraptor at first because she looks like the really mean ones from that one movie? But, we found out that the movie got it wrong."

"In that the Velociraptors were really Deinonychus..eses or that Velociraptors really aren't that mean?"

Re: Mingle, etc.

[identity profile] bruiser-in-pink.livejournal.com 2006-09-17 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
"The Velociraptors in the movie were modeled after Deinonychus."

"Ah." This was getting a little too technical for Chad, who's mind simply kept going back bashing little plastic T-Rexes against little plastic Triceratops while making fake roaring and chomping sounds. And occationally throwing them off rooftops to prove ultimately that dinosaurs like that couldn't fly, but did work well for confusing people in the streets.

Molly grinned and turned to listen to Tyler's speech.
