Fifth Floor Common Room, Sunday Afternoon

Bel had learned about football last fall. Now he was pleased it was football season once again. So he'd taken over the fifth floor common room and was camped out with snacks and drinks to watch the games that afternoon. Right now it was the New England Patriots versus the New York Jets.

He picked the Patriots to root for. No reason.

"Anybody tries to get you to jump, you tell me," Bel said. "I'll kick their ass."

Luke grinned at him. "Aeryn's been teaching me how to spar. Another few weeks and I can kick their ass myself."

Bel nodded. "That's cool. Tall, dark, and breathes heavy been giving you any trouble?"

Luke shook his head. "I've been staying out of his way." He smiled. "Rory threatened him on my behalf. I'm not sure if I should be touched or mortified."

Bel made a face. "Oh, I'm sure he was absolutely terrified of her," he said. "I know I would be." He rolled his eyes.

"She's hurting," Luke said, sounding defensive. "And I couldn't stop her from doing it. Vader didn't throw anything at her. He must be losing his touch."

"Maybe he's not so impressive after all if a wee chick can give him pause," Bel snickered.

Luke snorted. "If you end up going through a wall testing that theory, you'll have no one to blame but yourself."

Bel shrugged. "He hasn't bothered me so far. Class has been pretty mild compared to what Ethics was like last year. I was expecting it to be more sinister or something from what you said about him."

"He's probably just warming up," Luke said. "What was Ethics like last year?"

Bel made a face. "Teacher had a few screws loose. She was nice enough at first, then she got weird. Ended up with half the school wanting to lynch her, and she took off."

Luke blinked. "This goes a long way towards explaining how Vader got hired," he said.

"Yeah, well, when he tries to have a master/servant class, they'll come with the pitchforks and torches," he said, smirking.

"I'll help lead the charge," Luke said with a firm nod.

"So far it's just been telling the truth and what you'd do for love," Bel said. "Pretty easy topics. Probably just warming us us to drop the bomb."

"Probably," Luke agreed. "Why blowing planets up is a good idea or torture for fun and profit or something."

"Nah, I get the feeling it'll be more subtle," Bel said. "Or again with the pitchforks and torches."

Luke thought about it. "Vader's not known for subtle where I come from."

"Maybe he's looking forward to the lynch mob then," Bel decided.

Luke snickered. "Probably. The guy has a thing for destruction."

"Wonder how the administration will handle it," Bel mused. "I mean, if he deliberately provokes students to violence. . . or will they just blame the students? Gonna be interesting, that's for sure."

"Hopefully not in the 'and then everyone ended up in the medclinic' kind of way," Luke added.

"But that might be fun," Bel said, grinning.

Bel shrugged. "Won't be me," he said. "I'm hard to hurt."
