Outside Hunting Class, Period 7

"Negotiation not Annihilation!" Blair chanted as he paced in front of the classroom, carrying a sign saying the same. "Negotiation not Annihilation! Also, have some cookies!"

He had thought about carrying a smaller sign stating that the slogan was Professor Lyman's idea and the cookies were Aziraphale's, but then he figured that it probably wouldn't help inter-teacher relations at all.

"Oh, cookies!" River said, sneaking up on Blair and stealing one. "Any progress with the protesting?"

"New slogan." Blair waved his sign. "It's also a good chant."

"Hi," River said, taking a bite of the cookie. "How are you?"

"Good," River said, smiling too, then blushing a little.

"You're cute when you blush." Blair said and then did a mental facepalm. "Uh...I mean...do you want another cookie?"

River nodded and took another cookie. "Ditto," she said. She was still blushing.

"Jane gave me at hat," she said, getsuring to the one on her head. "And a nice duck gave me a feather for it."

"Uh...thanks." Blair wondered if they could base their relationship on a mutal ability to blush.

"It's a nice hat and feather. I didn't know you liked hats."

"I like hats," River said and took a third cookie. "See you later," she said and ran a way, giggling.

"See, that's a much better slogan. It really catches people's attention and makes them think about what they're doing."

"Thanks, man!" Blair bounced happily. "Professor Lyman came up with it."

John sighed as he left his classroom, carrying a large duffle bag. "Mr. Sandburg, we really need to stop meeting like this."

"You're not happy to see me?" Blair pointed at the tin on the floor. "I have cookies."

"I don't know him. But he has a way with words, certainly. Is it working?"

Blair shrugged. "You know, I'm not sure. I brought cookies this time too so I probably have invalidated any research by introducing two variables."

John looked at the tin, then sighed again. "What exactly is it you want?" Considering how their last two conversations had ended, he wasn't really holding out much hope that they'd be able to keep to a civil discussion, but apparently he was a sucker for punishment.

"But if people are paying attention, then does it matter why it's working? Just that it is."

"Logically, it doesn't matter. But with the club starting up, it'd be cool to have strategies for sucessful protests."

"I'm pretty sure that getting people's attention, and then explaining your perspective on things, are about as successful you're going to get for a protest. That, and it not ending in a riot."

"I'd like you to quit teaching hunting class." Blair said, glad to be able to discuss this...because he was also a sucker. "Not that I want you to lose your job or anything. But I'm sure the school could use you to teach something else or maybe you could help the Chef or be a janitor or something."

"That's a good protest. But a great protest is when you enact change."

"But change doesn't usually happen all at once. It's a slow process. So the protest might be the start of it, but you might not even see it until awhile down the line."

"Wouldn't it be awesome to see the lumber company shut down or the school reopened or The Man taken down right in front of you?" Blair bounced.

"That would be cool. But it doesn't usually happen. Like, ever."
