Fifth Floor Common Room - Sunday Evening

Marie was humming along to the radio as she baked cookies. She and Jamie had had a good date the night before and she had spent the day doing some online shopping.

Now she felt like being social and the cool weather had her in the mood to bake, so here she was. She'd brought her portable CD player with her and was listening to upbeat country music, dancing her way around the kitchen.

Summer, feeling a lot less emo, decided she wanted to be social. So she wandered into the common room and waved. "Hi."

"Hi," Marie waved her wooden spoon. "I'm baking cookies."

"Need help?" Summer asked. "Though I should warn you. My baking skills are pretty much non-existent."

Marie laughed. "Nah, you can keep me company though," she said. "Summer, right? We met a few weeks ago, I think."

The smell of baking wafted down the hall, which naturally brought a Bel to find its source. "Hey," he said.

"Yeah, and you're Marie?" Summer said. "I was there the night you got the streaks put in your hair. Those are pretty cool, by the way."

"Oh, right," Marie remembered with a grin. "That was the night Bel serenaded us. Thanks. So you just got here this semester, right? How are you settling in?"

"Hey," Marie replied. "How's it going?"

Bel peered around the room for those suffering from emo. "So far so good," he said.

Marie grinned. "That's good," she said. "There should be a batch of cookies ready to come out of the oven any minute."

"Hi," Summer greeted. "You're the plastic surgeon, right? Christian, I think?"

"I'm settling in okay," Summer said honestly. "I like it here. It's different."

Marie nodded. "Oh, yeah, different is definitely one way to describe it," she agreed. "Are you from somewhere normal?"

"I'm from California, so no, not so much normal," Summer said with a laugh.

"What about on the supernatural scale?" Marie asked, also laughing.

"I haven't encountered anything supernatural until I came here," Summer explained.

"Me either," Marie admitted. "Then it turned out that I was a mutant." She shrugged. "I guess it could have happened at a worse place. Everyone here has been really great."

"What kind?" Bel said, dropping himself down on the couch. Not that he cared exactly what kind, because, hey, fresh cookies.

"A mutant?" Summer repeated curiously.

Bel scowled. "No, I'm not that jerk," he said. "I'm Belthazor."

"Yeah, um, I can't touch people," Marie explained, holding up her hands, which were covered with latex gloves. "Something makes my skin hurt people."

"Chocolate chip," Marie said. "And I have the ingredients for oatmeal too."

"Oh," Summer said. "I'm sorry. It's just...you look just like him."

"Chocolate chip is good," Bel said. "So what's got you in a baking mood? Not that I'm complaining."

"Yeah, yeah, I've met him," Bel said, waving his hand dismissively. "I'm prettier."
