Fifth Floor Common Room - Sunday Evening

Marie was humming along to the radio as she baked cookies. She and Jamie had had a good date the night before and she had spent the day doing some online shopping.

Now she felt like being social and the cool weather had her in the mood to bake, so here she was. She'd brought her portable CD player with her and was listening to upbeat country music, dancing her way around the kitchen.

"I haven't encountered anything supernatural until I came here," Summer explained.

"Me either," Marie admitted. "Then it turned out that I was a mutant." She shrugged. "I guess it could have happened at a worse place. Everyone here has been really great."

"A mutant?" Summer repeated curiously.

"Yeah, um, I can't touch people," Marie explained, holding up her hands, which were covered with latex gloves. "Something makes my skin hurt people."

"Oh. I guess there are worse places to discover that," Summer agreed.

"Luckily, Jamie hasn't held it against me at all," Marie said.

"Jamie? Boyfriend or something?" Summer asked curiously.

Marie gave her a shy smile. "Yeah. My powers kicked in when he kissed me and he ended up in a coma," she explained. "But he forgave me and we're still together."

Summer smiled. "He definitely sounds like a keeper then."

"I think so," Marie agreed. "What about you? Got anyone special?"

"I'm going to homecoming with Shawn," Summer said. "We're not, like, serious or anything, but we could be?"

"Shawn's a sweetheart," Marie smiled. "I hope you guys have fun."

"Yeah, he is," Summer agreed, a silly smile on her face. "I think we will. So, guess you're going with Jamie?"

"Yeah," Marie nodded. "It'll be my first big school dance and I'm really looking forward to it."

"Oh, I bet you'll have a great time," Summer added. "I think it'll be fun."

"I think so too," Marie agreed. "Plus Student Council is planning a carnival that sounds like a really good time."

"Carnivals are pretty cool," Summer said. "My old school has one every year to welcome students back."

"Wow, sounds like fun," Marie said. "My school didn't do a lot of stuff like that. They were pretty focused on football."

"My school wasn't really focuses on football as much as on soccer and, if you can believe it, water polo," Summer explained.

"Water polo?"

"Yeah, it's kinda like a cross between soccer and basketball...only in a pool," Summer tried to explain.

"Uh huh," Marie nodded. "I'm not a real big sports fan."

"I'm not either, I just like watching the pretty boys in uniform," Summer said, grinning.

Marie laughed. "You should try out for cheerleading if we have any open spots."

"Hmmm, I don't know," Summer said. "Not sure I have the coordination for that."
