Roof: late, Thursday evening

Parker had a mentally grueling day, and then she exhausted herself at the gym. So she was up on the edge of the roof, smoking her last allowed cigarette of the day, and watching the lemmings jump off the edge.

Gently, gently, like a teeny bizarro-world ballet, they pirouetted off the ledges and balustrades, their little parasols carrying them softly to the ground.

Spin. Leap. Parasol. Wooooosh.

It was actually kind of relaxing.

"Yeah?" Bridge tilts his head at Z.

"Yeah, but it's gonna be tricky," Z warned him.

"I can do tricky. Sometimes, I can be downright devious."

"Okay, so. Watch this."

And then there were two Zs. The replicate took off her badge and held it out to Bridge.

"Oh, hey!" Bridge says, taking the badge. "Why didn't we think of that earlier?"

"There is a problem, though," Z warned him.

"What's that?" Bridge asks.

Z reabsorbed her replicate and the badge she'd given Bridge vanished. "That."

"Ooh," Bridge says, looking at his now-empty palm. "How long can you keep a replicate, um, replicated?" He asks.

"I dunno," Z admitted. "I've never really tested it, but I've kept one for three hours before."
