Outside danger shop, seventh period

Blair is busy working on plans for Damn The Man club this afternoon so he decided to doing something a little different for the protest. He's wearing a sandwich board with the words 'All beings have rights!' across the front and back.

Cally shook her head when she saw Blair. "Hoo-boy," she said.

Blair blinked and looked down. "Something you don't like about my sign, Cally?"

"Well, it's a great thought and all? But... yeah. Some stuff don't get rights," Cally said.

"Really? Who decides that?" Blair asked, setting down his notebook. "You? Who ever is in power right now? Who ever has the strongest weapons?"

"Well, what sort of rights are we talking about, here?" Cally asked. "You throw out a big word like that, yeah, it sounds really good but you're glossing over a lot of the intricacies about this sorta stuff."

"What if there exist beings who's sole desire is to kill and revoke the rights of other beings?"

"Well, that would be bad. But that doesn't mean we can take away that persons right to live." Blair responded.

"The right to live, mostly." Blair shrugged. "The right to exsist even though you're different."

"So what do we do about them, then?"

"Even if to survive they have to hurt people? Or they chose to hurt people and don't stop?" Cally asked.

"We explain to them that what they're doing is wrong. We try to reach a compromise." Blair shrugged. "If all else fails, we isolate them so they can't harm anyone."

"Choosing to and having to are different." Blair said. "If it's a choice, then we make them see that it's the wrong choice. We negotiate. If it's because they have to hurt people...actually, I'm not really sure if that's legitimate. Why does anyone have to hurt people in order to survive?"

"Then is there any sort of situation where violence is right? What if it's the only alternative between dying or someone you love dying?"

Cally chewed her bottom lip. "Technically, we do," Cally said. "Hurt to survive, I mean."

"Yes, there are some situations where violence has to come into play." Blair said. "Even in those situations it never needs to be the first response and it certainly never needs to be a lethal response."

"You mean by killing animals for food?" Blair asked. "That sort of thing?"

Cally nodded. "Yeah, that sort of thing. It's not that different, I guess, and I think I may have strayed wildly from my point and initial stance, but yeah."

"Integersting," Schrodinger said. "So if you protest this class, why don't you protest the war class?"

"It's an interesting comparison, especially with this class. I eat food from a cow because I need the meat. Except I could get the nutrients in a different format that might be harder for me to come by but not involve killing." Blair pointed a thumb over his shoulder at the danger shop door. "The monsters that eat people might be willing to try eating something else if we give them the knowledge and the information on how to do that. Just because somebody happens to eat a person or two, doesn't mean they're bad. Maybe they just don't understand their dinner options."

"War Theory implies discussion instead of practical usage." Blair said. "Besides, a war is two people choosing to fight each other. Hunting class is all about someone going off and killing a person because they're different."

"Or because they're trying to kill other people?" Schrodinger suggested.

"Not every supernatural being kills people, but Mr. Winchester is teaching people how to kill all of them." Blair looked at Schrodinger. "Say he teaches people how to kill a catboy who was seen in Memphis eating babies. It wasn't you eating the babies but now a whole class full of people knows your weaknesses and how to kill you. Are you comfortable with that?"

"So we're trying to turn monsters onto people-alternative food sources?" Cally asked.

"Yes. But I'm probably not a good example, since I doubt they could."

"If that's what it takes." Blair nodded. "Monsters can eat veggies too."
