Outside danger shop, seventh period

Blair is busy working on plans for Damn The Man club this afternoon so he decided to doing something a little different for the protest. He's wearing a sandwich board with the words 'All beings have rights!' across the front and back.

Cally shook her head when she saw Blair. "Hoo-boy," she said.

Blair blinked and looked down. "Something you don't like about my sign, Cally?"

"Well, it's a great thought and all? But... yeah. Some stuff don't get rights," Cally said.

"Really? Who decides that?" Blair asked, setting down his notebook. "You? Who ever is in power right now? Who ever has the strongest weapons?"

"Well, what sort of rights are we talking about, here?" Cally asked. "You throw out a big word like that, yeah, it sounds really good but you're glossing over a lot of the intricacies about this sorta stuff."

"What if there exist beings who's sole desire is to kill and revoke the rights of other beings?"

"Well, that would be bad. But that doesn't mean we can take away that persons right to live." Blair responded.

"So what do we do about them, then?"

"We explain to them that what they're doing is wrong. We try to reach a compromise." Blair shrugged. "If all else fails, we isolate them so they can't harm anyone."

"Then is there any sort of situation where violence is right? What if it's the only alternative between dying or someone you love dying?"

Peter shook his head. "Doesn't that get uncomfortable?"

"Believe me, man. Not nearly as uncomfortable as holding a sign for an hour when you only have one good hand." Blair waved his cast at Peter. "How's things?"

"Good point," Peter said with a grin. "And not bad. Next week will be nice without any class." He looked at Blair consideringly. "Have you ever asked Professor Winchester if you could attend one of his classes. To see what's really be discussed?"

"You don't have classes next week?" Blair asked. "Um...no. I haven't. Not really."

"I thought about crashing it once, but I was kinda afraid of accidently getting shot or something."

"It's term break next week," Peter replied. "We've the whole week off." He shrugged. "If nothing else, it would prove you're not attacking him without being willing to take a chance to look at his side."

After class

John came out of the class and glanced at Blair. "Everyone's making strange fashion statements today," he observed dryly.

"Someone else was wearing a sandwich board today?" Blair asked.

John shook his head. "Someone drew on Sammy."

"That's no fun." Blair shook his head. "Took me three days to get the heart off my cheek that one time. You should tell him to try a mixture of oatmeal scrub and lavender soap. Works really well."

The Doctor was wandering the halls, but stopped when he saw Blair.

"Wrong," he said, simply.

"Uh..." Blair looked down at his sign to see if something was spelled wrong. "What?"

"The concept," the Doctor said. "It's fundamentally wrong, on the whole."

"Wrong like some people don't deserve rights or wrong like not everyone has rights." Blair asked. "Because I would agree with the second part, not everyone has rights yet."

"Not everyone deserves rights," the Doctor said. "Though the latter is true in certain circumstances as well."
