Nadia was sitting upside down on the couch, munching on a chicken empanada and reading a book.

The adventures of six miss-matched characters across a make-believe world were surprisingly engaging.

"But I'm convalescing! I have to eat." He grinned and settled on the couch close to her. "I'm happy to hear that. What was so good about it?"

"Nothing at all horrible happened all day." Nadia reached up to pat him on the head. "Want me to make you something?"

Walter tilted his head toward her, smiling fondly. "Would it make you happy to? Because I could make something for myself, but I'd hate to deny you the opportunity."

Nadia laughed. "Surrrrrre you wouldn't. What do you want? That I know how to make?"

"I'm not so good at letting other people take care of me, but I have to teach you how to make shepherd's pie someday. I would be happy with anything you make that doesn't have peppers or hot sauce."

"Weenie," Nadia said good naturedly. "I think I have some empanada batter, still. I'll make ya one of those." Thus saying, she hopped off the couch and over to the kitchen area.

"What were you reading?" Walter asked, while he tried to read the back cover of her book. "Oh, and thank you."

"You're welcome. And it's just some adventure novel I found lying around. Magical world, elves, orcs, that sort of thing."
