Second Floor Common Room [Thursday Evening]

Bridge hobbles out of his room for the first time since Saturday evening. Leaning the crutches against the arm of the couch, he curls up and starts aimlessly flipping through channels.

"It's good," Stark said, after considering for a moment. "You? And there will be cupcakes another time. Probably."

"I'm . . ." Anders laughed a little nervously. "I'm okay, I guess. Been sort of lazy this week. I should, um, get out of my room more."

"Lazy can be good," Stark said. "Were you out with the troll things this weekend? You deserve lazy after that, I think."

Anders nodded. "Yep, was one of the first people out at the gates after the announcement. Did they keep you busy?"

"Only Sunday, when I was in the clinic," Stark said, shaking his head a little. "Why does everyone always have to get hit on the head?"

"Frakked if I know, man," Anders told him. "Concussions are no fun, but everybody's gotta try 'em, apparently."

"No fun at all," Stark agreed. "But everyone keeps getting them. All the time."

Anders shook his head sadly. "Well, the trolls were sure happy to dish 'em out like candy."

"They were! We need more small fluffy invasions. Like the bunnies. They didn't cause any head wounds. That I know of anyway."

Anders chuckled. "Maybe just overdoses of cuteness. They were nice and safe. I could go for more of those myself. Trolls aren't so cuddly."

"Rather have overdoses of cuteness than blows to the head. Maybe an invasion of kittens. Or did we have that already?"

"I think we did. But still, I'll take the fluffy invasions any day. Even though it was kinda satisfying to go after the trolls," Anders gestured at Bridge, Jude, and Billy, "they kind of beat up on my friends. I'm not a big fan of that."

"Don't think anyone is. It's never good, seeing your friends hurt. I think we've all had enough of that. More than enough."

"More than enough to last a lifetime," Anders agreed. "It's like that's what we're really here to learn, or something. About getting hurt, and how not to."

"I think we need to work harder on the how not to part," Stark said. "The getting hurt I think everyone here is good at already."

"In way too many ways, yeah." Anders gave him an ironic smile. "Some of us are learning better though. I hope."

"You had better be," Stark said firmly.

Anders coughed. "Yeah. Yeah, I am."

Sometimes Stark's tendency to being blissfully oblivious to things came in handy. He just nodded. "Good, good."

"I like to think so," Anders told him. Whew.

Stark grinned and nodded. "Well, why wouldn't you?"

"That's what I want to know," Anders said, happily seizing onto this thread of misdirection. "It would be dumb if I didn't."

"Yes. It would," Stark agreed. "So it's good you did. Are. Whichever."

"Yup." Anders nodded furiously. Maybe too furiously.

Stark eyed Anders oddly for a moment. "Right."
