The Pool; Sunday Noonish to Question Mark; July in Christmas Party.

Pippi had done wonderfully with decking the basement pool out to make it look like a luau; Chad helped hanged everything up high on the walls. Still, his favourite part had to be all the faux mini-palm trees strung with holiday lights everywhere. They were just too cute.

The pool toys were scattered around, the electric grill was fired up, and the holiday pool party was ready to go.

Chad rubbed the back of his neck. "We haven't," he said. Good thing, too, lately.

Nadia frowned a little, concerned for her ~~pet project~~ friends. "Is it something you'd want? Because if not, you should tell him that."

"M'not sure what I want right now," Chad admitted with an honest shrug.

Nadia nodded. "You should tell him that, then. He deserves to know."

"I know," Chad said. "I'm gonna. Soon."

Nadia nodded. "Good. As much as I would love to see you two together, you shouldn't do it if you don't both want it."

Chad really didn't want to talk about his indecisiveness anymore.

"So," he grunted, "you still wavin' that flag?"

"Now, that depends. Which flag?"

"For me an' Jude." What other flag could he have meant?

"If that's what you guys want, yes. It doesn't make any sense to wave a flag for it if you're not going to be good together."

But the problem wasn't whether or not they'd be good together, because they were. Really good...

Chad grunted, and nodded; he probably wasn't gonna get himself outta this rut of thinking any time soon. "I guess."

That wasn't really the Christmas spirit, though, was it? Nadia bounced up onto her toes (and possibly jumped slightly) to give him a quick kiss on the cheek. "But this is a party. We should be happy."

Chad grunted a laugh. This was much better. Y'know. Avoiding all that serious stuff.

"If ya really wanted me happy," he told her, grinning slightly, "you'd've givin' me more than just a kiss on the cheek."

Nadia laughed, too. "I'll keep that in mind if you're ever really depressed in private."

Which just made Chad rethink his whole 'no-emo' repitore. "I gotta be depressed more..."

Which got another laugh out of Nadia. "Well, if you really want to . . . but I imagine I would catch on after awhile."

Chad looked at her. "...Would that matter?"

Nadia sighed. "I really care about Walter, Chad. So . . . it might."

Chad grunted a bit. Back to this so soon.

"Yeah, I know. I was jus' jokin'." About all of it, if she wanted.

Nadia nodded, looking for a change of subject. "So, what's Christmas like in Japan?"

Chad shrugged, grateful for the change of subject, but also...kinda...not.

"S'not a real big deal over there. Lotsa people celebrate it, but really low key. Nothing like in Mexico, or here."

"Yeah? What do they do in Mexico, then?"

Chad grinned. "We've turned death into a reason to drink, eat, and party for more than one holiday; just imagine how excited we get over a birth."

"Ooo, excellent point. I'd like to see that some day, I think."

"I jus' hope I get to see it again..."
