Dorm Roof, Monday Afternoon

Billy decided to spend the first day of 2007 on the roof. No particular reason, but the weather was somewhat to his liking. He'd set up an umbrella and was sitting in a lounge chair with a book, stereo, and bottled water.

"I like it," Cally said. "Plus, they're the bar that buys all this off me, so, kinda biased."

"Think I can get a discount on it if I'm friends with the brewer?" Chad asked, still thinking himself a beer man over anything else, but, y'know, he could break that tradition for the sake of Cally's enterprise.

"Dunno," Cally said. "It's worth a shot. And if not, well, I might be able to get you some straight from the tap."

"True."

"...'Bout how long does a batch take?" Chad asked, because he was curious. He had thought about maybe getting that straight-from-the-tap thing soon, but, hey, he just woke up. Way too early for that.

"I let it go for a few days," Cally said. "I got a jar or two from the last batch still in my room, though."

The mention of the complete jars made Chad wonder if he was really that easy to read. But, nope, still too early. "That's really cool, Cally."

"Thanks," she said, loading up the various ingredients where they needed to go. "How was your New Years?"

"Was good," Chad said, watching with interest. "Went to the party at Caritas with Ted, then brought in the Mexican New Year with Jude..." And he said that information reluctantly, bracing himself for another case of an extra nose being stuck into his business.

Cally nodded. "Glad you and Teddy hung out," she said, simply.

If one listened carefully, they could hear the sound over very big shoulders relaxing a little. "He asked me to come with him," Chad said, "an' I'm glad he invited me; it was fun."

"He's a good guy," Cally said. "Deserves to be happy. And... not to get hurt."

"I know," Chad said quietly, thinking back to some of the things and and Teddy had talked about. That was...here on the roof, too. It made him want to go find find Teddy, and give him a hug, just because. He wanted to protect him from more pain, never wanted to cause him any. Wasn't probably the best person for the job, but he hoped he wasn't doing too badly....

"Good," Cally said, and left it at that.

"So... what's this I hear about wanting Nadia?"

Chad grunted. "Lemme guess. You heard this from Nadia herself?"

"Yeah. And she was kinda drunk at the time," CAlly admitted.

Chad curiousity, at that moment, got the better of his logic. "She didn't, uhhh, happen to say anything about what she thought about it, did she?" Sure, she'd said a lot about it to him the other day, but this was possibly drunken perspectives. He still knew nothing would ever happen from it, nor did he want it to, but hearing about it would at least be interesting.

"She was more focused on telling me I wasn't allowed to crush on her," Cally said.

Chad's head tilted slightly, and then it shook a little. "She's a strange girl," he concluded, all too obviously.

"Yep. Not always all there in the head," Cally said.

"Nope."

"Did she have reasons why you couldn't crush on her?"

"Because she's dating Walter," Cally said. "D'uh."

"Well, besides that." Chad had been hoping for something a little more interesting than the obvious. "Logic and crushes don't always work together, y'know."

"Well, she's also totally not interested in girls," Cally said.

Chad halted himself mid-nod when he wondered if there was something wrong with his own brand of logic, considering he accepted that more than the boyfriend thing...

Cally shrugged. "Doesn't really matter to me, since I kinda already have a girlfriend."
