Second Floor Common Room, Early Saturday Morning

Sam hadn't gone back to her room after leaving Parker's party. She'd taken a very long run around the island, and then swam some laps in the pool in an attempt to exhaust herself into sleep, but it didn't work. She couldn't focus enough to work on her swoop bike or the wormhole equations on her wall, and she didn't have any homework to do.

Which was how she'd ended up in the common room making many pots of coffee and setting out an assortment of pastries from J, GoB (along with a little sign that said No, I didn't make them! and a reference phone number for the bakery in case anyone wanted to call and check). She wasn't exactly feeling social, but that could always change. She started nibbling on a bear claw and flipped through channels on the television.

"Okay, I got heal and teleport, but I'm a little iffy on binding and whitelighters," Sam said, more than a little confused.

"Mom must've thought it would be hard for Grandpa to deal with Chris and me with powers since he's a normal human," Wyatt said. "So she cast a spell on us that took away our powers, at least for awhile. And the whitelighter thing, my dad was one. They're kind of guardian angels, I guess. My dad didn't go here, did he? Leo Wyatt?"

"I've never heard the name before," Sam said, fascinated by what Wyatt was telling her. It sounded like magic had its own rules. "Sorry."

"I guess she meets him later then," Wyatt said. "Aunt Phoebe said she's dating some guy named Lindsey now."

"It's actually very uncommon for people to marry the people they date in high school," Sam said, without thinking of the implications for herself, because, hello, forty, "Just because life intervenes and makes them different people, who may or may not have things in common even five years later."

"Phoebe's gonna marry Belthazor, though," Wyatt said. "She said his human name was Cole, and that's the name of her ex-husband. Grandpa kinda left out the demon part."

"Well, sometimes it works," Sam smiled. Or maybe not, since Bel was an ex-husband, but that wasn't for Sam to say. "Was Phoebe happy to know that?"

"We didn't tell her that part," Wyatt said. "Or that she and Mom are dead in our future." Ooops. Facepalm.

Sam blinked, then said quietly, "It's better not to tell, for a number of reasons."

Wyatt nodded. "I'm going to find a way to change things, though. There has to be a way."

"I'm sure that if there is, you'll find it."

"I hope so," Wyatt said. "It can't just be a coincidence that me and Chris ended up in the same school as Mom. Can't be."

"No, it's probably not." Sam paused. "Um, Wyatt, I don't know if anyone's asked you this, but are you sure that the Phoebe here is actually your Phoebe? We've got alternative universes going on here, in addition to time displacement and loops."

"I don't know," Wyatt said, scratching his head. "Grandpa never mentioned Mom and Phoebe going to school here. I thought they went to high school in San Francisco."

Sam sighed. "Then the Phoebe here may not be..." she shook her head, deciding not to be responsible for separating a teenage boy from family. "It might have just been easier to tell you that. Fandom's tough to explain."
