Second Floor Common Room, Early Saturday Morning

Sam hadn't gone back to her room after leaving Parker's party. She'd taken a very long run around the island, and then swam some laps in the pool in an attempt to exhaust herself into sleep, but it didn't work. She couldn't focus enough to work on her swoop bike or the wormhole equations on her wall, and she didn't have any homework to do.

Which was how she'd ended up in the common room making many pots of coffee and setting out an assortment of pastries from J, GoB (along with a little sign that said No, I didn't make them! and a reference phone number for the bakery in case anyone wanted to call and check). She wasn't exactly feeling social, but that could always change. She started nibbling on a bear claw and flipped through channels on the television.

Jake staggered in, clutching an ugly mug with coffee. He looked around blearily. "I smelled coffee?"

Sam pointed over her shoulder towards the coffeepot.

Jake shuffled his way towards the coffee pot while finishing what was left in his mug. "Yay coffee."

Wyatt wandered out into the common room in search of food. He grabbed a muffin and read the sign with amusement. "What's with the warning?" he said to Sam.

"Long story," Sam admitted, "but there are some people who might need it if they saw me and food in the same room and leapt to the erroneous assumption that I baked. Hi, I'm Sam Carter."

"Wyatt Halliwell," Wyatt said. "Not a cook, I take it? Me neither."

"Hi," Zero said, waving with the hand not holding her danish. "I'm Zero. Who are you?" Why yes, she did believe in getting right to the point.

"Wyatt Halliwell," Wyatt responded. "Nice hair."

Cassie wandered in a little sleepy-eyed.

"People sure get out early here," she said, mostly to herself.

Sam yawned. "Morning. There's pastries and coffee. Help youself."

"Don't drink coffee," Cassie said. "But pastries I can do, thanks."

"Hey, Cassie," Wyatt said with a wave.

"Hey... Wyatt," Cassie said, after a beat. "How's the... witching going?"

"It's the best way to get a shot at the free food," Zero explained.

"Oh," Cassie said. "That happen a lot, here?"

"Ohthankgodcoffee!" said Draco as he entered the common room. "And doughnuts!"

If it wasn't for the accent you'd think he was an American.

"Help yourself," Sam offered, "but if you kill the pot, you have to make a new one."

Jake eyed him and quickly filled his own mug before Draco got his hands on the coffee pot.

Tannim was awake enough for his stomach to growl, so he headed to the kitchen to scavenge for breakfast. "Oh, food!" he exclaimed, helping himself to a doughnut and coffee.

She smiled. "Morning! I'm Sam."

Jake held his ugly mug protectively and eyed the new boy. "Hello," he said. "You have kind of a new car smell about you, don't you?"

Zero said something around a mouthful of danish, swallowed, and tried again. "New kid! Hi, I'm Zero."

"Hey, roomie," Wyatt said, waving at Tannim.

Zero peered suspiciously at the pastries for a moment, then whipped out her phone and dialed Jeff's. "Yes, hello? I'd like to make sure someone bought some pastries there this morning?"
