[Dorm Roof, Sunday Morning] Scouting

Number 6 was peering over the edge of the roof with a pair of field glasses, taking notes on the students passing by and jotting down suspicious behavior. He would find out which were the prisoners and which were the wardens...

[OOC: Ping to the OCD "Being Watched" thread if you want 6 to see you on the school lawn and what your character is doing as they are idly passing by. No action is too mundane for suspicion. Obviously, the roof is also open for your interactiony needs.]

Wow. That was poignantly direct. Henry started to shake a little, and it certainly wasn't from the cold.
"What? Of course not! And as being watched would indeed perpetuate that idea, I cannot say that I find it very agreeable."

Steerpike smirked inwardly. This one was easy.

"Of course. I was merely curious." Steerpike bowed slightly. "I am Steerpike."

Henry bowed back, still shaking slightly. "Henry Jekyll. It is a pleasure to meet you, Steelhike." Normally, Henry would have quickly attempted to memorize the correct name, but under the circumstances, he was a bit preoccupied.

Steerpike swallowed a frustrated sigh and quietly hated this Henry person and everyone else in the town.

"A pleasure, then, Henry Jekyll. Tell me, if you have nothing to fear from being watched, why are you shaking?"

Ohh, no. That was just what he needed, wasn't it? Henry's left hand started to twitch. He took a deep breath.
"It's a trifle chilly out here. When I left London, it was spring." He fakes a smile. "I'm getting used to the climate change, that's all."

Steerpike turned his gaze toward the sky.

It wasn't that cold out.

"I see. That will, unfortunately, not be how the watcher will interpret it. Do you need to borrow my jacket?"

"That is a gracious offer, but I'll be fine." Henry began to calm down. Speartyke seemed like a decent enough fellow, just a little inquisitive.

Steerpike regarded Henry calmly and nodded. "Well, should you come to any trouble from whomever that watcher may be, I would be happy to offer you my assistance."

"Thank you," Henry responded, "again yours is a most gracious offer, but I'm confident that our newfound roof acquaintance means us no harm." He was acting more casual, but still didn't turn around.

This was an interesting change from his prior demeanor. Steerpike wondered what had brought it on. "Are you acquainted with him?"

Henry felt brave enough to turn around and look up at the figure with the binoculars. He squinted, but he didn't seem to recognize him. "No, I'm afraid not. It comes as no surprise though, being as I am a new student at this school."

"As am I. I begin to get the feeling that it would best for us new students to stick together."

Henry pondered this. "Indeed. Fandom is a queer place, filled with microwaves and diabolical squirrels."

"Also, gremlins and electrical devices, Nazis and vampires," Steerpike commented calmly.

"I know all of those, save for the Nazis."

"Some form of creature mentioned to me by another student, in the same context as the vampires."

"I'll have to look that up." Henry seemed to be serious. "So, from where do you come?"

"Gormenghast. Yourself?"

"London," Henry responds. "I'm not from this time, though. I left in eighteen hundred and eighty-six."

"Gormenghast is, as far as I can tell, not even of the same world as this . . . 'Fandom'. I hadn't heard of London. Nor do we measure our dates by the same years as the people do here."

Henry's intrigued. He tries to define a date by technology. "In my time, we do not yet have electrical machines. We have, however, harnessed the power of steam." He looks at Steerpike inquisitively, as if to say "does that ring a bell?"

"How very nice for you," Steerpike answered.

"I was trying- Oh, never mind." It wasn't that important.

"I shan't. I must be off, I have business in town."

"Then I wouldn't want to keep you from it. I look forward to seeing you again in the future, Leertype."
