Second Floor Common Room, Thursday Evening

Anders had gone back to his room after Ares's class and taken a long nap. Luckily for him, he didn't have any classes tomorrow -- which was good considering that now his sleep schedule was going to be all wonky.

Anyway, he had finally hauled himself next door to the common room, where he was devouring a chicken Caesar salad about the size of a small jacuzzi while watching cheesy old action flicks.

"Wow, the stunt bottle over the head really is universal, apparently."

[OOC: Open like, uh, something open.]

"Buffalo originally, but I haven't lived there for a while. Before I came here I lived on a submarine called SeaQuest." So far everyone seemed fairly impressed by that. He was completely willing to use it to get an in with people. "Oh, and 2019."

"Wow," she said admiringly. "Um. So, are things very different thirteen years now?"

"From what I can tell from doing a few searches on the Internex, I don't think the 2019 I'm from is the 2019 you'll eventually get to. It's like a parallel timeline," he tried to explain, "Because some of the things that were supposed to happen in the late 90s and early 2000s at home haven't happened here. But I don't think there's that much difference. Technology at home is more developed than here, and colonizing the ocean became a big thing, but other than that, people still do the same kind of stuff. Like eat burgers and watch movies and...stuff."

Pam bit her lip, and then...well, she had to ask. "Are there hovercars yet?"

Lucas grinned. "Sort of. They haven't replaced real cars, but they do exist. You just have to be rich to own one and they kinda suck."

"Do they fold into briefcase-sized containers?" she asked, because that was just as important.

He laughed. "No, not yet. They're pretty big and...chunky." It wasn't the word he was looking for, but it would do. "Besides, people got kind of tired of being cramped on land, so a bunch of people moved into underwater colonies. No need for hovercars down there, but there are underwater vehicles that are a lot like hovercars. Make the same noises like in the cartoons anyway."

"Where are the underwater colonies?" she asked. "Oceans? In the deep, deep sea, or just off the coast, or what?"

"Oceans mostly. I think they have some shallow colonies off the reefs in Australia, but it's pretty much down as low as you can get. Mining, research, the kind of thing that keeps people busy."
