Second Floor Common Room, Thursday Evening

Anders had gone back to his room after Ares's class and taken a long nap. Luckily for him, he didn't have any classes tomorrow -- which was good considering that now his sleep schedule was going to be all wonky.

Anyway, he had finally hauled himself next door to the common room, where he was devouring a chicken Caesar salad about the size of a small jacuzzi while watching cheesy old action flicks.

"Wow, the stunt bottle over the head really is universal, apparently."

"What did you do there anyway?" she asks. "You don't sound like a conscript."

Lucas had to resist the urge to roll his eyes at how lame this sounded. "My father has a lot of influence and wanted me out of the way, so he made some arrangements. I wound up on SeaQuest. But I held my own, so Captain Bridger let me stick around. I was a computer engineer."

"So you're a tech," Aeryn says, putting it into terms she can understand.

Lucas nodded and shrugged. "Yeah, I guess."

"So when you say you can hold your own, what kind of things are you used to working on? Just systems, or mechanics and things like that?" she wonders.

"Computers are my field, but not just fixing them. If someone on the ship needed the computers to do something new, I'd make it happen, even if that meant creating a new program or device to do it. I learned a little about mechanics while I was there and I know my way around pretty much anything electrical."

"Good skill to have," she says. Not that Aeryn would ever keep things like that in mind or anything.

"It keeps me busy," Lucas replied. "Or did. I got a TA job with Professor LaForge, so hopefully he'll have something for me to work on so I don't go stir crazy."
