5th Floor Common Room, Friday morning after third period

After class, Bel made his way back up to the fifth floor. Instead of heading to his room, he sat down on the couch in the common room, picking up the remote and turning on the TV. He flipped through the channels, idly looking for something to occupy a few hours.

"Oh?" Bel said. "How are they different?"

"Oh, subtle stuff. There's a lot more interaction and competition with the other contestants," Schro said.

"Do they beat each other in an attempt to guess the appliance prices?" Bel said skeptically.

"Well, one of my favorites involves contestants trying to figure out if their fellow contestants are lying or not. See, they can ask for help, but no one said they had to tell the truth."

"Oh yeah. It's fascinating. Wonderful game of subterfuge and backstabbing. Kind of like the Mole over here. Only moreso."

"Sounds like demonic entertainment."

"Is it? I've never been a demon. I wouldn't know."

"Backstabbing is fairly common among demons. Treachery isn't tolerated by your superiors, but it can be amusing to watch underlings scrambling for power and praise."

"So the higher up demons view their inferiors as a sort of amusement?"

"They're tools," Bel said. "But they have their amusements."

"So I take it you were a higher up demon, then?"

"Yes, I was high in the ranks."

"Interesting. Like, were you a lord and had to speak in rhyme?"

"...what?"

"Some legends hold that some demons had to speak in verse to denote rank. Like a Baron would speak in Couplets, but a Duke would speak in Sonnets."

"And how does one rise in the hierarchy, where you're from?"

"Following orders, making a name for yourself. Getting the attention of higher ranked demons."

"So it's not one of those cut-throat, kill the guy above you things?"

"That actually happens quite a bit as well."

"Must be dangerous to be at the top, then. What's the devil like in your world?"

"That would be me the Source. The Source of All Evil."
