The Roof: Sunday night, well after dark

The Beast was crouched on the corner of the roof, looking out over Fandom.

Half hidden in the shadows and the night, he was brooding - dramatically - and also for some reason humming under his breath.

Two days, and his life had changed dramatically -- because of Samantha.

It was unexpected. It was inexplicable.

Without really noticing, his humming segued into song. (Because the power of Disney narrative can not be denied.)

She glanced this way, I thought I saw
And when we touched
She didn't shudder at my paw
No it can't be, I'll just ignore
But no one's ever looked at me that way before.

If he'd realised what he was singing, he'd likely be horrified.

[ooc: open, as roofs are, but you'll probably need to get his attention. Lyrics twisted slightly. ]

When Simba finally arrived on the roof his jaw dropped open at what he saw. It was a beast! A terrifying monstrous beast!

Oh man, that thing would keep him feed for days!

With a huge grin he dropped close to the ground, and tried to sneak up on the thing's swishy tail.

Simba's own tail swished back and forth with anticipation as he watched the Beast's tail. It was all the joy of watching a dangly string, coupled to the happy thought of getting a great dinner with it. Just ... a few ... steps closer ...

Nefertiri was in need of distraction after the events of earlier in the evening still being played out, and headed for the roof again. She paused when she saw the Beast on the corner of the roof. Singing.

She decided to approach cautiously, and climbed onto the balustrade again, tip-toeing closer.

Judging that he was finally close enough, Simba shifted all his weight to his back paws, and launched himself off in full pounce mode. "Raaaar!" he cried as he tried to latch onto the twitching tail with his itty bitty fangs.

Nefertiri froze, fascinated. "What are you?" she whispered, ready to leap aside.

"A child of the gods? Bast, or Sekhmet?" Nefertiri crept closer, watching him, waiting to see if he'd pounce. Staying out of reach, although he seemed no threat at the moment. "What do you want with mortals in this place?"

"I am a daughter of the gods and kings," Nefertiri said proudly. "I do not turn away. You look like a Sphinx, almost. Or one of Bast's people, as they are drawn in the temples." She curled her legs under her, still staring. "You sang."

Even though he was dangling at an odd angle, Simba was determine to hold on as best he could to his prey. He real king wouldn't give up just because the Beast was bigger and stronger than he was, and could probably beat him up.

"Mmm taafer zan aa look," he said through a mouthful of fur.

"You did," Nefertiri said calmly. "It was what drew my attention. I can not yet lift enchantments. Perhaps when I have studied more in the temple of Amonet, and Hathor. I am a daughter of Seti, descendant of the sun god Amon-Ra. We are the gods on Earth."

Simba crossed his paws as he was embarrassingly picked up by the scruff of his neck. He was never going to get this pouncing thing right.

" 'Cause I've been all around the grounds here, and I haven't been able to find any herds of gazelles or other stuff. My Dad said that I should practice my pouncing skills on something." He looked away sheepishly. "So I did."

"You are enchanted? In what wise?" She crept a little closer, watching him. "There is a book, that they say can break enchantments. And raise the dead. The book of Amon-Ra."

Simba tried to resist his inner cat instincts to pounce on the Beast's tail again. If he tried attacking the bigger creature a second time, he'd probably fail again. Ducks, on the other hand were something he might have a chance with, being the same size and all.

"I'm Simba!" He puffed out his chest a little. "The future King of the Pridelands!"

Lonnie had acquired a pack of cigarettes and went up to the roof to smoke. She was rapidly coming to the conclusion that this town sucked, and decent digs or not, it wasn't worth waiting around for Rath. Taking a seat on the edge of the roof, she lit of a cigarette and took a long drag.
