4rth Floor common room, Lunch time

Ami was unimpressed with the lunch options. So she was making sushi in the common room. This did not mean there was nothing but raw fish. Although, there was plenty of raw fish. There was also a lot of smoked eel, and plenty of vegetarian sushi to go around for the vegetarians or the unadventurous.

[ooc: open, duh. there is sushi, sashimi and everything you need to make your own. i am at work and bored whee]

Setsuna nodded, drawing in a breath as she felt herself calming. "I considered the Self-Defense club, too, but, ultimately, my concern when it comes to defense is not self preservation."

Oh, crap. There was that little pulling in her chest, a feeling Setsuna was starting to get way to familiar with, and the words she knew she'd say in response to something like that flowed out of her before she could even try to stop them, in full-force formality. //"If you need a protector, Ami-san, from anything, at anytime, I am willing to offer my services."//

Setsuna flinched a little. Dammit. But at least she didn't bow. She was getting better.

Internally, Setsuna winced, then flailed. How embarrassing, the whole thing, years upon years of formality and servatude catching up with her in a brief moment so she could make a complete fool out of herself in front of Ami. The fact that Ami returned it back to her almost made it worse; if Ami had just gawked, Setsuna could easily just apologize and find a corner to curl up and die of embarrassment in. As it stood, Setsuna wasn't sure if she should continue the formality or just apologize anyway, and, uh...

She drew in a sharp breath. //"I...I'm sorry about that. That...that was more impulse than anything else. You don't need to be so formal, but sometimes I...I can't really help it..."//

Setsuna decided to leave the explaination there. Going into further detail would just complicate things more than necissary. Ami seemed so normal; Setsuna wanted her to think she was normal, too.

Setsuna didn't get many chances to feel normal.

Setsuna bobbed her head, to show Ami that she certainly understood the part about responding to formality with formality; they came from a culture that, for the most part and with few exceptions (she was thinking specifically of Ranma for that exception part), most people were like that. But this next part...

//"Yes,"// Setsuna said, with reluctance, trying to think about how best to dance around specifics. //"I...work for a very important household in Kyoto, have since I was a little girl, so certain...responses are rather...engrained into my consciousness. That...was one of them."//

Setsuna shook her head. //"No, no. I'm the one who made the situation awkward, not you...I'm just...yeah. I'm sorry, Ami."//

Setsuna nodded, smiling lightly back. //"I think that's an excellent idea."// And promptly stopped herself from following the impulse to apologize again.

"Oh, they're going quite well, thank you," Setsuna's head bobbed in a nod. "I'm having difficulty with my spy tech class, but that was too be expected. How are yours?"

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2007-02-06 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Setsuna smirked briefly, recalling up their varied thoughts regarding Math. "We had a unit on camera technology that wasn't so bad, but I do have trouble, sometimes, with technology on the whole. The classes themselves are not bad; it's all the homework we have that I have trouble with."

"The work itself isn't difficult on a broad sense," Setsuna said. "It's just that I have difficulty with the specific topic. Writing a short essay isn't hard, but, when you know little about technological methods of spying, it is frustrating."

Setsuna chuckled a little. "I'm starting to wonder how in the world I survived here before I got my laptop," she admitted.

"Mine was a recent gift; I've never really had a computer before then."

Setsuna leaned in for a closer look, a little fascinated by the tiny device. "What all can it do?" she asked.
