When Dawn had explained to Sam why they were kitten-sitting Hunter over the break, he hadn't let himself get jealous right away. After all, it was much healthier to wait until he was by himself to get bitter and cranky.

He was still feeling kind of annoyed in the morning, but he was making up for it by sprawling out on one of the couches and teasing Hunter with a laser pointer. Scout was sitting by his side, looking far more interested in his new chew toy than the kitten-y entertainment.

Ooh, petting. Yes, this girl was definitely worth further sniffing, and Scout yipped appreciatively.

Sam glanced over and laughed. "Awww, I think he likes you."

Mac smiled at Sam as she finished off her mouthful of apple. "The feeling's mutual. He's cute," she remarked. "Yours, I guess?"

"Yeah, that's Scout, aka the best Christmas present ever. I might be kind of biased with that last part though," he said, laughing.

"Just a little," Mac agreed with a nod and a slight grin. "But, I can see why, really. Best I can do is my goldfish. He's very cute, but not really all that exciting."
