5th floor Common room, Monday after classes

River was happy and making popcorn went well with being happy. So popcorn were flying through the kitchen and River danced about, trying to catch as many as possible with her hands and mouth. Berthold was lying under his blanket, tentacles reaching out and trying to get to the ice cream carton without getting in the way of River. Her mood seemed to be contagious as the monster made cheerful squeals.

[Open! There's popcorn enough for everyone.]

River reached out and handed Buffy a popcorn, grinning happily. "There's ice cream too."

"Yay ice cream," Buffy said approvingly. She accepted the popcorn and happily ate it. "How're you doing?"

"Good," River said, beaming, sitting down next to Buffy. "You?"

"Pretty good," Buffy nodded. "I made a poster in Media. It was glittery."

"A poster of what?" River asked. "Glitter sounds good."

"Of Bertie! It was a Yay Bertie poster," Buffy said proudly. "To promote understanding and... stuff.. for under the bed monsters!"

River's face lit up. "Perfect. Have you shown him? Although he might eat it. Oh, and I slept with Jack."

"No, I hav---BZUH?" Buffy stared at River, eyes very big. "Whatwho? Buh?"

"I slept with Jack," River repeated a little quieter. "And I believe there will be more of that."

"But..." Buffy flailed a little, searching for words to articulate her meaning properly. She ended up with; "But why?"

River glanced at her. "Wanted to. Like him. And he likes me."

"But sex is a big step and, and..." Buffy sighed. River was different. She looked at her. "Did you have fun? Or, I dunno. Is it all good?" She meant River, the situation, Jack and the sex all at once.

A somewhat silly smile appeared on River's face. "All good." But the smile faded a little. "But I'll have to tell Blair. He wanted us to get back together, and I said no, and then maybe. Not that the thing with Jack is exclusive, as there's also Sam and Cedric, but Blair wouldn't understand that."

Buffy shook her head slowly. "Nooo... I don't think he would."

River glanced at Buffy. She didn't understand that either it seemed, but as she wasn't involved that wasn't really important. "Don't want to lose him," River said.

"He's still your friend though? Or do you want him to be your boyfriend again?" Buffy blinked in confusion. Her own romantic relationships were so much easier, yes.

"He' a friend, but he wants to be more than that. Part of me could have said yes to that," River tried explaining. "But I don't know if he'll want to stay a friend or if he'll be too hurt." Sometimes Blair's reactions were hard to predict.
