Third Floor Common Room, Tuesday Night

Valentine stood back and proudly admired the pillow fort that he had made out of the couch cushions. He wasn't half bad at making them even when he wasn't insane by way of cupcake, he decided, and he might take up designing sets for himself more often in the future.
The only thing he was really missing right now was a low-fat non-whip soy latte.

And a cast, crew, script and camera.

He'd iron out the kinks later. Nothing could stand in the way of the progress of the magic of the movies!!

(Common room open, as common rooms are! Come in and be a star? We can figure out OCD as we go. ETA: As most of us have gone to bed, slowplay is now the name of the game to finish that movie. OCD is up for the filming itself, and I think we have pretty much all the positions filled. But if you want to show up and gawk, you can totally do just that.)

Okay, she was blushing. And also setting her chin stubbornly and refusing to get flustered. "Hey, some of us aren't all, you know!" She waved vaguely. "Yes, okay? The sex thing. Not much of that. I'm fifteen, you know. Besides."

Rikku cut herself off abruptly. "You're laughing at me, aren't you?"

He shrugged, grinning at her. "Nah, not really. I kinda figured out I got started early," he said easily.

She blinked. "You were fifteen? Really?" And then remembered curling up and falling asleep in warm arms and realized that it wasn't all that unlikely, really.

Okay, Rikku didn't know who else to ask at this point, so...

"Hey, Professor Deadpool said something about ... you know. Boys, and how, oh, if he's a sixteen-year-old boy, of course he's like that. I mean, you know. All of them are, even if they act like they're not." She chewed her lower lip. "Is that true?"

"Actually I was thirteen," he said, then frowned slightly. "What do you mean, 'like that'?"

"Thirteen?!" Rikku squeaked. "No WAY! That's just ... that's crazy! Whoa! That's exactly what I mean, by 'like that.' He said even the guys that act like they're not interested, oh, they are, they're just acting like they're not."

Alec held up his hands, eyes widening. "Dude, okay, first off -- I'm not human. Or at least not entirely. So my hormones and stuff? Kinna jacked up from the norm." Lowering his hands, he thought about her question a moment. "I'm pretty much interested all the time, and if you go by Dean, then humans seem the same way. Biologically, guys are pretty much at the high point of their sexual activity in their teenage years and twenties, so I guess most of them are 'like that'."

"Oh. Oh. The, thing from earlier. Right. I'm so sorry, I forgot. I didn't mean to be - rude or whatever."

Rikku sighed. "I'm just really bad at this and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, that's all."

"The what thing from earlier?" Now he was confused, but her forlorn look made him reach out to pat her shoulder comfortingly. "Hey, if you wanna tell me what's going on, I can try and help, okay?"

"Oh. Oh, right, that wasn't you. There was a you in my computer class? But it wasn't you. So that kinda doesn't really apply anyway, but they mentioned the not-human thing, is all." She shrugged nonchalantly, as if all of that made sense.

She leaned a bit over. The shoulder thing was nice. "It's nothing, really. I mean, it's stupid. I've got this awesome guy and he's got me. It's great. I just ... suck at this whole dating thing, I guess."

"There was a me in your what?" He shook his head to scare away the confusing thoughts for the moment. Squeezing her shoulder, he sighed a little. "Dude, I suck at dating, like really bad. The sex thing I do pretty well, but my best advice for dating involves 'don't do it' or 'don't sleep with other people when you're dating someone.'"

Rikku waved vaguely. "There was a simulation deal in class, and one of the people was you. Not you-you, but a different you."

She gave him a sideways grin. "Okay, the not sleeping with other people? Yeah, I figured that one out myself." She shook her head. "I kinda like the dating bit. I guess I just worry that, you know."

She laughed and put a hand over her face. "This sounds so stupid and I have no idea why I'm telling you this."

"Who teaches that class?" He asked curiously, having an idea already but curious nonethless.

"And, hey, everyone's gotta have someone to talk to," he said, shrugging a little.

"It used to be Kevin Flynn, but he kinda left. I wonder if we scared him off? Anyway, now it's Logan Something. Cale." She shook her head. "Everyone here has so many names."

She blushed a bit and considered. "Okay, you ... don't mind, really? 'Cause. I mean. Hypothetically."

She thought for a minute. "If all guys are like that? And your guy isn't? Is that because he's way-awesome and really polite, or ... I don't know. I mean. I'm so the type that I ... if someone kisses me, I'm just crazy, like, rational thought, gone. And he's always still just - mellow, like, not gonna do anything, you know? And ... I mean, yeah, I'm glad, that's great, especially 'cause I'm an idiot and don't know what I'm doing. But not if it's ... just that he's not ... as crazy as I am. With the kissing deal and the rest of it." She shook her head, trying to make some of that make sense to her.

He filed that away for later and snickered. "Hey, when I got here? I didn't even have a name," Alec told her, amused. "I haven't given in on the last name thing yet though."

He nodded as she explained, smile softening a bit. "So, you want more and he doesn't seem like he does, so you wanna know if you're weird or if he is?"

"Oooh, me too! I mean. The second-name thing. Where I'm from, you had a you-name, and then you had a tribe-name. Not just, hey, everybody's got two names for no apparent reason."

Rikku blushed pretty hard at the latter statement. "I ... kind of? I guess it's not ... I mean, it's not even that I want more, exactly? I mean, I kinda do and I kinda don't, and I'm kinda scared of thinking about all of that anyway. I guess it's just ... I want him to want more. I wanna know if he's ... if he does, but he's being polite, 'cause he's sweet like that? That's so awesome. But if he's just ... if he doesn't feel that, the whole, 'when you do that, I just want things and I don't even care about being stupid' ... what if he ... never feels that?"

"I was a number for most of my life," he said. "Having one name's still kind of new sometimes."

Alec took a deep breath, wondering why he said yes when relationships weren't even his thing. But Rikku was cute and he dug her spazzy weirdness, so he actually put some thought into his reply. "The way I see it, you've got a couple options. One, you drop him." He held up a hand to forestall any objection and continued. "If he's not striking the right keys, then what's there to lose? Two, you jump his ass and if he says no, then you know where you stand. Three, you ask his opinion."

Rikku looked at him oddly, not entirely sure how to respond to that. "I'm sorry. About ... the number, not a name." And flashed to something from class. "Max. Your friend. You said ... she named you?"

She folded her arms for a moment and thought. Okay, it was really nice to have someone to ask about this kind of thing, really, because even talking about it helped some. And hey, he didn't think she was crazy, that was a start, right?

She laughed, amused at herself and the situation. "One, no way. He does strike the right keys. I just worry that I don't. Maybe I'm not good at this whole making-out thing. Or maybe he's way nicer than I realize."

"Two ... I don't know if I'm ready for that. And I don't wanna be all, pressuring him into something if he's not ready. I don't want him to think I'm some kind of ho or something."

She chewed on her lower lip. "Three, I guess that's the best one, but ... won't he just say the same thing either way?"

Her eyes lit up. "He did totally freak out when I showed up in that outfit Sunday. That's something, right?"

He nodded slowly, staring at Rikku. "You should definitely talk to him, then," he said absently. "Did you say Max named me?"

Rikku looked at him for a long moment, wondering if she'd said something wrong. "Right. Talk to him. Okay."

"And ... yeah, that's what you said. Not-you-you. I'm pretty sure that was her name. Long dark hair, pretty, looked kinda bored?" She shrugged. "She was watching the news."

"Yeah, that's her," he said, then paused. "Okay, look, this is going to sound weird, I guess, but that teacher apparently knows a future me, but where things happened differently. So, uh, I'm kind of just this side of wondering what kind of shit happened different that she got to name me." He looked somewhat bothered by the idea, probably close to flailing if he were prone to it. Which he totally wasn't, ever, no really.

Rikku looked at him oddly, trying to follow along. "A future you, but different? ... Whoa. That's ... seriously weird, I mean. Even for Fandom, that's kinda ... that can happen?"

She considered for a moment. "You guys were - it was a bike messenger place, with one guy who had way too much caffeine and was freaking out and a dude with a headset who was grumpy. Max was watching the news and being upset at the people being jerks about transgenics. And she said something about ..." Rikku took a deep breath. "Breeding partners?"

"You didn't say why she named you. I mean, not-you-you. Just that she did. I think maybe ... you were friends." She shrugged. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to -"

"Don't," Alec said gently, cutting her off. "Thanks for telling me, really, it's just... weird. I know who Max is, but the rest of them? I never knew anyone outside of Manticore until I came here.

"Wow, that's gotta be so weird." Rikku bit her lip. "Manticore? That's ... the place from the e-mails, right?"

"You saw that too?" Alec nodded. "Yeah, they're the ones who made me."

Rikku nodded, blushing. "I, uh, yeah. It was kinda sent to people, and."

She looked down. "They said it was a government deal, so I figured most of it was crap. I mean, look at what they said about us, right?"
