Dawn decided the time was right to attempt to make french toast. What could be better on Easter Sunday than brunch, right? So she'd handwavily bought some good bread, eggs, sugar, and vanilla, and was currently trying to figure out the right proportions of things. The griddle wasn't heating yet.

Being Dawn, in addition to syrup, she'd also bought strawberry jam, nutella, tobasco sauce, chocolate chips, walnuts, bananas, raspberry sauce, caramel, and peanut butter. There were also bacon and ham available if someone wanted to make them, and plenty of extra eggs and bread in case someone didn't want to go the french toast route.

She sipped at her pineapple juice and contemplated going to look up a recipe.

"Sure!" Dawn went looking for plates and forks, "And I'm used to there being a lot of people around eating."

Rikku giggled. "It's either all or nothing, like, it's just me and Brother, or else everyone and their mom shows up and then everyone's in the kitchen adding things and ... things get kinda fun like that."

She grabbed a spatula and managed to get half of the concoction onto one plate and half on another. "Oooh, there's juice? Brunch is awesome."

"Yeah, I like juice better than coffee or tea," Dawn added orange juice to the pineapple in her own glass, then got another glass for Rikku, "Want me to pour you some?"

"Yes, please! Orange, and thank you!" She bounced. "Coffee and tea are kinda blah. Guess I have too much of a sweet tooth. Besides, they're all brown. Brown's just not trying hard enough to be festive."

She laughed. "Time to find out if this is even edible!"

She figured she should have guessed about the orange. Dawn poured the juice for Rikku and grabbed a plate. "Um...you first."

Rikku bounced and found a seat, taking the orange juice from Dawn. "Thanks!"

She dug in eagerly. "Oooooh. I think I like it! Kinda weird, but I'm good with weird. It's all funky."

She giggled. "Well, I'm certainly surprised."

Dawn took a bite, then chewed thoughtfully. "This isn't bad. Lots of texture. And surprised by what?"

"It's fun! All weird and taste-a-licious. Yum." She giggled. "And it was a stupid pun. I'm always surprised when I make Egg Surprise. Usually that it's edible. And sometimes, that it's not. You never know!"

"Ohhhhhhh," Dawn said, taking another bite, "See, this is the downside to not having coffee or tea. I miss things like puns. And this is very edible!"

"I don't seem to need caffeine. I mean, I have it sometimes, and then I'm really crazy, but I don't mind mornings so much. You get a good night's sleep and everything else takes care of itself!" She nodded emphatically. "And I'll have to remember this. Although I probably won't. Half the fun, though."

Taking a minute to adjust to the mental image of Rikku on caffeine, Dawn decided, for the good of society, not to introduce her to mochas. "Yeah, I like to experiment in the kitchen. That's part of why Home Ec is fun--River and I get to make things together."

Not that those things were always edible.

"You're in Home Ec?!" Rikku gasped. "I thought that class was, like, scary! Something about a pole and dildo cozies and an Emma Frost lady who dresses up like she's naked!"

"Oh, that's all there," Dawn told her, "and she even made us do her laundry once, but there's cooking and crocheting, too, and that's not so bad."

Rikku shuddered. "I think maybe I won't be taking Home Ec next year. Although I'd be able to help Hermione with knitting those cozy things."

"How many dildo cozies does Hermione need?"

"She's sending them to the housing elves back at her other school, the one she used to go to? They put them on their ears and ..." She stopped. "I don't wanna talk about this any more."

"Is everything okay?" Dawn asked, instantly worried.

Rikku stared at her. "Dildo cozies. On their ... ears. Nice and furry for ... ow ow ow! Maybe they think they're socks? Right? It's not a ... thing. Right?!"

"A thing?" Now she was back to confused, "I thought they were just to keep the dildos warm?"

Rikku stared at her, horrorstruck. "Why do dildos need to be kept warm? What happens if they aren't!?"

"They're cold?" Dawn said, then, just to check..."You do know what they're for, right? And why you might not want them to be cold?"

Rikku stared for a moment. "Oh. Oh. Oh, yeah, I ..."

There went her brain again.

"So then ... the housing elves have ears that are ... similar to ..."

Ouch.

"Um..." Dawn's brain was on its way out of the building as well. "Maybe they think they're like earmuffs?"

"But for the shape to ..." Her eyes got very wide. "Okay. Do you have anything I can hit myself in the head with?"

"I have a frying pan back in my room, hanging in the closet," she offered.
