Chupacabra Campfire [Tuesday Evening]

One workshop on explosions, one more day spent avoiding Luke and Gavin's back at the campfire. He's not hiding this time, but he's still prepared to run should anyone mention quarters or tigers or 'angels.'

After his workshop, he'd gone into town and picked up ten bars of chocolate. Yes, ten. Look, they might taste different, okay? Of course, Gavin's not thinking of chocolate plus fire equals a mess. He's too busy trying to decide which to try first.

Karal waved back, courteous even in his stunned amazement. "I think that might be Johnny," he ventured. For really, even here, how many people could there actually be who could set themselves on fire.

Set themselves on fire without coming to harm, that is. He was sure many of the people here could manage it the traditional way...and he realised he was mentally babbling and made himself stop.

Turning around, Johnny headed straight back towards Karal, laughing until he flew down to actually talk to him. While on fire of course. "Nice evening, isn't it?"

Karal scrambled to his feet and took a step back. "...Johnny?"

"Uh-huh," he said, grinning. "Hey, you got anything to drink around here? I am totally burning up!" So the joke was lame? Johnny was amused.

Karal relaxed and managed a smile. "Charlie told me about this, but I had no idea..." He trailed off, eyes wide with wonder. "Amazing."

"Ain't it? The flying is way cool though. And Charlie talked about me?" Well now, that just made him feel great.

"She did, she said that you were a hero," he told Johnny, holding one hand out, palm forward, to feel the heat radiating off him. "Glory!"

"Charlie called me a hero?" He beamed. "She must be thinking about me. Man, I love this place!" Johnny took a step back, "Whoa, there Karal. I can get pretty hot."

"No, no, I won't come any closer. I'm not foolish enough to try and touch." He held up his hands and backed away a few steps. "My apologies. And yes, she did. She said that you took what happened to you, and used it to do good." Which was quite a paraphrase, but the intent was the same.

"No need to be sorry, Karal. I'd just feel terrible if I accidentally in some way harmed someone." Johnny extinguished himself and smiled, "I did, yes. At the time I didn't exactly have a choice, but it was for the good."

"May I?" he asked, reaching a tentative hand towards Johnny's shoulder, normal shyness overcome by his sheer amazement. "You always have a choice. You could have spent your time feeling sorry for yourself, though I do not see that being likely, or used your abilities for your own benefit. That you choose to aid others is deeply to your credit."

"Of course," he said, "I'm hot, but not enough that it will harm you." Staring at Karal, he was humbled by his compliment and bowed his head, smiling. "Thank you."

"You are welcome," he said quietly, resting one hand on Johnny's shoulder, then patting it a little when it wasn't hot. "Amazing," he repeated. "Just incredible." He stepped back and grinned. "And I also think you very much enjoy being able to turn yourself to fire, and to fly."

"I do," he smiled. "I must admit it. It is like you said, amazing and incredible. I don't think I would too easily give it up. If had too."

"Something you love, that can help other people, and looks as impressive as that did?" Karal shook his head. "Why should you ever give it up? Could you even give it up? It is part of you now."
