Chupacabra Campfire [Tuesday Evening]

One workshop on explosions, one more day spent avoiding Luke and Gavin's back at the campfire. He's not hiding this time, but he's still prepared to run should anyone mention quarters or tigers or 'angels.'

After his workshop, he'd gone into town and picked up ten bars of chocolate. Yes, ten. Look, they might taste different, okay? Of course, Gavin's not thinking of chocolate plus fire equals a mess. He's too busy trying to decide which to try first.

Fascinating thing, the ground. It wasn't sand interesting, of course, but it still bore further scrutiny.

Which was why Luke was staring at it so hard.

"Um." He really did need to learn to speak. "What's up?"

"The sky," Luke said with a very small smile, "and Artoo's morale, now that we've stopped throwing him treats."

Gavin hid his face in his hand. "Did I dent him?"

"Not at all," Luke assured him with a smile, "though he's got, um, the entire thing recorded. And he won't erase it. I've tried."

"Oh god," Gavin said and shook his head. "Can you lock him up so he never shows it to anyone?"

Luke arched an eyebrow. "You're a X-Wing pilot. Have you ever had any success getting an R2 unit to do what you want it to?"

"You're a Jedi," Gavin retorted. "Use the Force."

Luke cracked up. "I'll get right on that," he promised.

"You're not my angel," Gavin said mock sadly.

Luke laughed harder. "Tiger? Eat him!"

"Thanks for the quarter," Gavin said, starting to laugh himself.

"I'm not sure Rikku is ever getting over that," Luke said, throwing himself onto the ground with a groan.

"Yeah," Gavin agreed with a small nod. "People kept asking me if we ended up...together."

Luke shuddered. "I like you, man, but no."

Scowling, Gavin said, "Hey! Did I sound sad about that? No together for us."

Luke put up his hands. "No argument from this side."

"Have people been teasing you?" Gavin asked. "About it all?"

"Not really," Luke admitted, "but I haven't exactly been, um, out of my cabin."

"Wimp," Gavin teased. Not that he'd been doing much better. "I hid under my jacket."

"This is not the farm boy you're looking for," Luke teased, moving his fingers in front of his face.
