Chupacabra Campfire [Tuesday Evening]

One workshop on explosions, one more day spent avoiding Luke and Gavin's back at the campfire. He's not hiding this time, but he's still prepared to run should anyone mention quarters or tigers or 'angels.'

After his workshop, he'd gone into town and picked up ten bars of chocolate. Yes, ten. Look, they might taste different, okay? Of course, Gavin's not thinking of chocolate plus fire equals a mess. He's too busy trying to decide which to try first.

"I'm not," he confirmed. "I'm from a planet called Tatooine. Very, very far away."

"Just earth for me," Setsuna smiled a little, her shoulders shrugging. "This version and time, even. What's...Tatooine like? Is it similar, or very different?"

"Different," he said. "It's a desert planet for one. Full of sand. Sand all around. Very boring."

"Are you finding it preferable here, then?" Setsuna asked, feeling like she wouldn't blame him at all if he did. Very boring indeed.

"So far," he said. "I like there not being so much sand, definitely. And the chocolate is good."

"And there's always the beach, should you ever get homesick?" Setsuna offered with a light smile, trying to keep her mood somewhat jovial so she didn't just sit around sulking. Especially when meeting new people.

"I'm going there tomorrow," he said happily. "And maybe I'll swim. I haven't done that in...years."

"I don't swim much myself," Setsuna admitted, "but I do recall, last year, an amazing beach party where I did a little. That was probably my last time in the water, I think."

"What's the water like, if you can recall?"

"Cold," Setsuna grinned. "I'm from a place where the waters are much warmer."

"Where are you from?" Gavin asked. "Besides Earth, I mean."

"Japan?" Setsuna answered, tilting her head and making it her own question as if to ask the extend to Gavin's knowledge of the planet's geography. "It's an island country off the mainland of Asia, which is approximately on the other side of the world. Japan itself is fairly north, but the nearby South Seas island are quite tropical."

The other side of the world helped his mental picture. "I've been having people tell me where things are so I can put things together. I know Texas, New York, Kansas, and now Japan. What's the other side of the world like?"

"The people are very different there," Setsuna said after a moment. "Clearly, we tend to look like anime characters a little different, too, but the culture stands out a lot, I feel. I think I've been assimilating well into American culture, though..."

"I don't know how well I'm doing fitting in," Gavin admitted. "It's very...different from where I'm from. Not the different people but the different ways."

"Well, what have you found to be the most different?" Setsuna asked. "Besides the sand, that is."

"Clucking books," he said with a laugh. "The school being in pieces? People from my future and past here?"

"Okay, so...." Setsuna couldn't help a small chuckle herself, "pretty much the same thing that most people find different about here. So, if those things haven't driven you away, I think your adaptability skills are strong enough to take it."

He smiled at that. "That makes me feel a little better, thank you."
