Gym [Wednesday Afternoon]

After finding his way to the gym, Gavin took some time to look around. It wasn't quite what he was used to but it wasn't unfamiliar and that was, at least, comforting.

He picked up a basketball and, after figuring it out it went into the hoop, passed the time doing that while he waited for Tori.

[Gavin's here for Tori but the gym is, of course, open.]

"I'll go grab us each a pair," Gavin said, finding the gloves and selecting a pair for each of them. He tossed a pair at Tori before sliding his own on.

[Hee! I would've been too!]

"Thanks." Tori grinned and caught the pair. She slid them on, not that used to working out with them except on the punching bag.

[Score!]

"No hitting below the belt?" he said, serious but teasing.

"Agreed. I reserve that for when people really make me angry." Tori nodded, joking a bit. People never really made her that angry, unless you counted evil forces. That? Was a totally different story.

"Good," he said and raised his hands into a defensive stance. "Sorry if I mess this up. I'm rusty."

"I don't think you will." Tori offered him an encouraging smile. "You'll do fine."

[*runs away for a minute to speak with parentals*]

"So you say now," he said and bounced on his feet before moving forward.

Tori shrugged, believing it. She fell into a defensive stance and backed up slightly, not wanting to make the first move.

He laughed and said, "Gonna make me do it, are you?"

He planned out a short strategy in his head, pinpointing possible weaknesses and prepared to be woefully wrong about those.

And then he jabbed at Tori's shoulder. More of an experiment than anything.

Tori grinned innocently. "Uh huh."

She hadn't expected the jab and stumbled back slightly. Raising an amused eyebrow, Tori reached for Gavin's arm ~~assuming it was still extended at this point~~ and twisted it around, attempting to pin it behind his back. But she wasn't trying to hurt him.

He hadn't taken his arm back quickly enough and found himself minus an arm...mostly.

"I've gotten slower," he muttered before trying to check a hip into Tori to jar his arm loose.

Tori smiled to herself, slightly surprised that it had worked.

The hip check worked and Tori let go of his arm. She flipped backwards and landed into a fighting stance, just in case Gavin was planning anything sneaky.

"Nice," he said and banged his hands together. "I think I'd break a bone if I tried a flip."

Instead, he moved forward quickly, swinging a right at Tori's face.

"Thanks." Tori chuckled and shrugged. "Part of my training. Okay, please don't break anything." Definitely didn't want that happening.

She dodged the punch and aimed a kick at Gavin's midsection.

And she connected and he grunted before backing off. She was quick and he wasn't all that quick. Disadvantage.

He held back for a moment, thoughtful, before moving closer again and throwing two quick jabs towards her stomach.

She managed to half block the first one, but the second one connected. That made her wince and hunch over, backing up a bit on instinct.

Tori managed to regain her composure a second later, and aimed a kick for his head, not putting as much strength behind it as she normally would because she didn't want to hurt him if she actually connected.

He was able to see it coming and jerked out of the way. Still, she caught a glancing blow and it was enough that his next punch, a left that was supposed to knock her off balance, flew wildly toward her shoulder.

Tori easily avoided the punch and crouched down, attempting a leg sweep to knock Gavin off balance.

[Bedtime for me, continue tomorrow? :D]

Looking up at the ceiling was not how Gavin wanted to start this sparring sessions off.

"Whoops." He bounced back up to his feet.

[Me too and yep!]

Tori was glad to see how quickly Gavin got back to his feet. That was a nice response time.

What? She was observing her opponent, it was something she did.

Gavin took a minute to loosen himself up a bit more, stretching muscles and tendons.

And then, he closed in quickly, taking one swing high and one swing low just to see how good a blocker she was.

Tori was great at blocking, it was one of the first things she'd learned at the Wind Academy. She used her one arm to block the high swing and her leg to stop the low swing.

Turning ever so slightly, Tori managed to keep a grip on the arm that swung high and attempted a judo throw, which would cause Gavin to flip forward to the ground, landing on his back... if it worked.

...which it did.

And he was on his back and wincing ever so slightly. "Ninja skills are kinda useful."

He clambered back to his feet, arms up and said, "You're good."

Tori saw the wince and smiled sheepishly. "They are pretty handy, yeah. You okay?"

She chuckled slightly and shrugged. "Thanks. You're not so bad yourself." She could definitely learn a thing or two from Gavin. She could clearly see that.

"Yep," he said, nodding and bouncing. He moved closer again, faking a left hook high before moving to sweep the opposite leg out from underneath her.
