Third floor common room, Monday evening - PARTY TIME!

Never leave decorating for a party to the mellow. There were some streamers tossed around and one of those fold-out crinkly hanging ball things dangling from a string that was duct taped to the ceiling. A stack of festive party hats tilted rather precariously on top of Jude's displaced stereo, which was playing something bouncy and probably from before he was born.

Food, however, was an excellent thing to leave to the mellow. Well, to the Jude anyway. A mismatched array of bowls held a mismatched yet delicious array of snacks and there were drinks of all kinds "liberated" from every common room that had anything in the fridge. Sadly, there were no milkshakes. Most of Jude's efforts had been put into the cake. The triple-layer (the base in chocolate, the middle slab in white, and the top in orange) cake decorated in as many clashing colours of icing as Jude could find. There was bright orange trim with purple and blue rosettes wherever he could fit them, and 'happy birthday, Rikku' in shaky cursive across the very top in hot pink. Sprinkles, marzipan, and gum drops were present in abundance. It was a cavity waiting to happen. And Jude was making sure no one touched it until all sixteen candles had been blown out.

Of course, until then, he was just going to sing "Sixteen Candles" to himself. A lot.

Tori saw the birthday cake and made a mental note to congratulate Jude on a job well done.

She was definitely looking forward to having a piece of that. But for now, Tori munched on a couple snacks.

Rikku stared at the cake, gasping. "Dude! Did you ... it's awesome!" And then clapped her hands and tackle-glomped the Jude-man mightily.

Conner was so there.

". . . oh, so that's where my ginger ale went," he observed idly. "Cool."

He munched happily on a handful of snacks; sugar was a nice way to take a break from the continuing intimidation of soccer-camp budgeting.

Rikku took a breath, made a wish ... and blew out all of the candles. Well, most of them. At least she didn't spit on the cake?

And then she got the stragglers and did a victory dance.

Tori left a couple (http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/cubegoodies/6748/zoom/) presents (http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/plush/8823/zoom/) on the table, both wrapped in variations of orange paper.

Attached to them was a note:
Dear Rikku,
Happy 16th girl! I really hope you have a wonderful birthday!
Seriously, happy birthday hon. Have a great one!

Setsuna hadn't actually been aware of Rikku's birthday, but once she realized that, hey, that's what this was, she left a note on the presents table that read: "I.O.U. one kick-butt spar. Happy birthday, Rikku! --Setsuna"

For Rikku, Bridge made the iPez version 2.0. It is, of course, orange.

Unfortunately he had no orange wrapping paper so *that* is shiny and green.

Luke was rather fond of orange himself. He left her a stuffed thing (http://akamai.globalsources.com.edgesuite.net/f/593/3445/5d/pdt.static.globalsources.com/IMAGES/PDT/BIG/732/B1002170732.jpg), and a clean flightsuit of his (also orange), with a note attached: This entitles you to a flying lesson with me. Sokka didn't have anything for her, but he was there eating snacks, so he hurriedly scribbled a note saying "I O U 1 present", left it on the table, and hoped Rikku never remembered to try to collect it.

Hermione's on the practical side. Which is why there are two packages, one that is definitely large enough to hold schoolbooks, and another that is undoubtedly a book.

The one good thing about Christmas shopping early and buying extra presents? It meant that when there was in impromptu birthday party, Isabel was prepared. After using her powers to turn her gift (https://shop.thehungersite.com/store/item.do?itemId=5122&siteId=220&sourceId=220&sourceClass=StoreSearch&index=3) various shades of orange, Isabel wrapped it (also in orange) and left it on the table.

Katara didn't quite get Rikku's love of orange, but she could try to at least work with it. So she wrapped the present (http://www.anthropologie.com/jump.jsp?itemID=17806&itemType=PRODUCT&iSubCat=2263&iMainCat=17) up in orange paper with a card saying Happy Birthday, Rikku!
