There were painstakingly measured cone paths running up and down the length of the gym. Today the players were going to run.

Once everyone appeared to be assembled, John made an announcement, "Okay guys, today we're gonna run sprints. Let's see how fast all of you can run 100 meters." He motioned to a box of stopwatches next to the sign-in sheet. "Grab a stopwatch and time yourself. You can also get in groups or pairs if you'd like. If you have questions, your captains are available as always."

She snorted, "Well, at least Gladys is interesting enough. Or the sorting engine. I could totally give you a tour John." That thought perked her up. "Then we could go have pie for lunch!"

"That is a great idea, Annette," John grinned. "I'd dig a tour and some pie."

"Yay! And we haven't had pie together for a long time, John. I'm looking forward to it." She smiled.

"So, you dating anyone yet?" What? She was always curious like this and just asked whatever. He could totally give her the stink eye and tell her it's none of her business. Still...had to ask.

John raised an eyebrow at Annette's question but decided there was no point not answering her. "Nope, I'm as single as they get," he said.

"Cause you wanna be or because there is no one here you wanna date or because you don't date girls or because you just don't want to yet or because of something else you just can't say aloud?"

John's jaw might've dropped a bit. "That's a lot of questions. Let me see if I can answer them in order: No. No. No. No. No."

"Hmm," Annette thought about that. "But I bet there are lots of girls that would like to date you, John. You've just got to get out there and ask them. Or did that second no mean that there is no one here you wanna date? I might be confused just a tad."

Where John was from, he didn't have to try, these things just sorta happened to him.
"I've been on dates, Annette. They just don't seem to go anywhere," he said. "And, yes, there are plenty of girls here I'd like to date. That's not a problem."

"Oh. Well that is good cause you are really cute and if I didn't have a boyfriend I would ask you out on a date and if you'd like, we can call our pie affair a date. It's a total pie date which is totally platonic. Right? So I think that would be just fine. As long as you don't try any funny stuff. I've found out that Dick likes to hurt poeple when that happens. So, who have you been out on a date with cause I totally missed radio mentioning it?"

John laughed again. Annette was cracking him up with her questions. "No funny stuff. Remember, I'm not Storm, Annette. But thanks for the faith," he smiled dorkily.

"As far as my prior dates go, I'm not sure how many were actual dates other than the one with Abigail," he said, voice lowered.

"You bet. I mean yes, I have total faith in you, John. Really. It's just this natural sort of feeling. I mean when I look at you I think, 'Now there is a nice guy who would not just try to kiss me cause I'm standing here'." She chuckled to herself, wondering about certain things like that.

"Abigail? So that was a real date date and didn't I hear something about Prue? She's a cheerleader you know and really good. I like her. She's pretty."

"Well," John was not blushing, darnit! "Prue and I went for coffee once. I wasn't sure was a date date. But I'm definitely interested," he admitted quietly.

"You know, I remember talking to her," Annette said not really noticing his blush. "She is like wayyy older in her other life somewhere. I mean I think she's old enough to be a mom or something. She did tell me that she was a cheerleading when she was in high school so yay for us! Being interested is always a positive start to any date, John."

"Huh?" John shook his head, ignoring the old part cuz that just didn't make sense. "Yeah, I just need to figure out if she's interested, too."

Annette felt the need to explain, "You know how you came from somwhere else? Everyone comes from somewhere else. In Prue's other life, she is much older than she is now. Get it? And all you have to do is ask her. If she's interested that is."

"Well, that's different, but still cool," John said. "Maybe I'll try the direct route, Annette. You could be onto something with that."

"I think it is really cool, John. I've always found it really interesting to learn about how other people came to be here." She smiled at him, nodding a little. "And yes, I've always found being direct completely beneficial at times. Others not so beneficial but I do my best not to dwell on such happenstances." Cause she's had a lot.

John smiled, "Everyone at Fandom seems to have a really interesting story."

"Of course they do, that's why we are all here. Except you know, I am really normal."

"I am too," John said quickly. It was true, for the most part. Genes so don't count as making you different.
