First Floor Lobby, evening

After visiting the big picnic, and picking out most of the new people by sight, Evie retired back to the dorms and settled into the lobby couch to people-watch. With a book. Or possibly, five.

"Ahh, that's right." Evie nodded, having placed Haku. "Never had the chance to read for fun? Oh dear Lord, that's terrible." She immediately picked out Death Warriors of Mars for him. "This is a classic science fiction adventure, which I adore, I'm afraid. Vicarious violence and all. And, this is a mystery, and that's a French romance, and that's and English romance, and that's the History of the Roman Empire, but I'm not really done with that one yet." She took a breath, and looked abashed. "Forgive me. I get rather intense about things bookish."

Haku shook his head vigourously. "No! It's really okay!" Haku smiled brightly. "I just finished my culture book for this world, so I've been really wanting to read some fictional novels and see a movie. A mystery novel sounds good though."

"Borrow it with my blessing. I'm sure Jake would be proud of me, he's the one that got me into reading those," Evie said, holding out the book. "I'm up in room 512, with, um. Walter Cheswick." Evie might have looked a little suffocated at that point. "And have you visited the Library? It's got a *lovely* selection."

"Thank you! I'm in 321, I share it with Robyn. He's a frog," Haku explained with a smile and flipped open the book to look through it. "He's really sweet though. I haven't been to the library, I wanted to wait until I finished my culture book so I'd understand more of what I was reading. Its kind of frustrating to have to pause every other sentence to look up what they're talking about."

"Oh, dear, I can only imagine," Evie said sympathetically. "They had a very helpful class, my very first semester here, about adjusting to the 20th Century and America. Where-- or when-- are you from? I'm a hundred years off the current timeline, so I had to learn about computers and phones and everything."

"Entirely different world for me I'm afraid," Haku said, holding the book tightly. "It's hard to describe. From what I can tell my world is like Feudal Japan here, except that we have electricity, television, and rudimentary computers, but no telephones or cars, organized sports... It's kind of strange."

"Oh, how interesting." Evie looked intrigued. "And yes, a rather major adjustment, I'd think. How is it you speak such good English? Or is this the language of your homeland?"

"You know, I'm not sure." Haku laughed and tucked some hair behind his ears. "I....suppose it's something that handwaveyhappens when you move dimensions."

"There is a great deal of that," Evie admitted. "One almost doesn't like to ask, because the answers end up making your head hurt." She shook her head. "What workshops are you signed up for this session?"

"At the moment? Creatures, How to convince people you're a spy, and I think Sex Ed. Well that is if those classes don't get full. What about you?"

"Patriotism, because it's rather like history, and I adore that. Exploding Things! And hopefully Pie." Evie nodded determinedly. "And I think I shall take the Spy one, if I can't get into one of those. Professor Alianne is quite pleasant, and very competent, from what I've heard."

"I thought she was really nice too," Haku grinned. "I definately learned a lot about explosions. And I think the pie class is taught by the Yondaime Hokage, he's from my world."

"Oh, I know him! He's Professor Deadpool's-- husband, I think." She was never quite sure if that was true or not. But why not say it? "He's quite nice, I met him at the engagement party Professor Alianne threw for them. Oh, splendid!"

"Really?" Haku blinked curiously. "That's really interesting since in my world everyone thinks he's dead."

"That does tend to happen here," Evie admitted. "Well, more than one person being here, or being dead somewhere else, or time travel being involved. Terribly confusing, really."

"It does seem that way. He's a hero back in his village I think. Defeated a demon fox and saved the country. He's pretty famous for it." Haku explained. "I was really surprised to see him at first, and even more surprised to hear he was teaching a class on pie!"

"I had no idea! I shall have to ask him about that, when he's teaching." Evie gave a little bounce of joy on the couch. "It's rather admirable that he's adjusted so well, then, isn't it?"

"It really is! You'll have to tell me what he says, I'm curious to see if he's from my timeline or not." He was curious, but a little afraid to ask. It was after all the Yondaime Hokage, you didn't just go up to him and ask him why he's not dead.

"Then I shall remember to do so. Oh, this is going to be a wonderful session, I can just tell." Evie smiled optimistically. "Possibly we won't even be invaded for weeks and weeks!"
