After visiting the big picnic, and picking out most of the new people by sight, Evie retired back to the dorms and settled into the lobby couch to people-watch. With a book. Or possibly, five.

A.J. let out a pretty heavy sigh. "A few states that way," he pointed vaguely north, "and as utterly normal as you can be, it seems." He offered a small, vaguely shy smile. "Sorry to disappoint."

Haku smiled back and shook his head. "Not disappointing," he said assuringly. "Where I come from just about everyone has powers, so I like 'utterly normal as can be' people."

Well, that was encouraging. A.J. laughed, despite himself and probably because of the alcohol, "Well, in that case, I'm probably one of the most normal guys here, so lucky me."

"I'm sure it won't stay that way for long," Haku said, shaking his head. "Too many odd things happen around here for people to stay too normal"

A.J. thought about this a little. "Well," he said, finally, pouting a little, "that's no good."

"It could be worse," Haku pointed out. "Has any one warned you about the weirdness?"

"Ohhhh, yeah," A.J. nodded. "I fully understand that tomorrow, I could very well wake up a girl. Which isn't fair. I don't remember signing a contract for that sort of thing."
