Second floor common room, Saturday afternoon

Qui-Gon had recently discovered television and while it seemed primitive in some ways compared to the holos that were the closest equivalent, he was finding the range and content of the programming rather fascinating.

He was particularly enamoured with those programs showing disputes being arbitrated. The cases seemed to be mostly about petty little things and not the life or death issues the Jedi were often called upon to help settle, but it was interesting to watch the different ways the judges sorted out the truth of the situation.

And besides, Judge Judy looked a lot like one of the Jedi Council members, which added a whole other level of amusement to Qui-Gon's viewing.

Flipping through the channels today however was not yielding the programs in their usual places and he settled instead on some kind of large musical concert that seemed to be commemorating the planet.

[open like a common room]

On her way back from the town, River heard the music from the TV coming from the second floor common room, and she entered quietly, moving to the music without thinking.

"Yes," River stopped by the couch. "Have not studied Earth music much while I've been here. I should have." She smiled at Qui-Gon.

River sat down on the armrest of the couch. "I find experiencing the best way of studying. Taking in a lot of information subconciously then retrieving it later for use. Making connections between different sets of experiences creating complex cognitive structures."

Abigail was coming upstairs, and the sound of music drew her into the common room. "Oh, I forgot this was going to be on today," she said, watching the TV.

"I hope my dad's watching," Abigail said. "Some of these bands are definitely more his style than mine."

Abigail grinned. "Anything that sounds good when it's played really loudly."

River looked at the girl she didn't know and smiled.

Abigail smiled back. "Hey," she said, trying to decide if this was a new person, or someone she should remember.

"I'm River. Just returned. Been away since May."

"Aah. I'm Abigail," she replied. "Nice to meet you. Were you visiting home? It seems like a lot of people are doing that over the summer."

Andrew walked in and plopped himself no the floor in front of the television. "Oh, global warming goodness!" He bobbed his head and smiled.

Andrew gave Qui-Gon a momentary blank look followed by a comical horrified expression, "No! I mean, yes! Global warming bad. Very, very bad!"

River smiled at Andrew, recognising him without all the swimming gear from the beach. "I'm happy you survived the sharks," she said.

Andrew grinned widely at River, "Well I had a very good aquatic protector."

River laughed at that. "Useful. I like the sea."

Since it was far too hot to explore the town, Anemone was wandering the dorm. Again. Drawn by the music, she paused in the doorway. "Are those more singing idols? How many idols do these people have?"

[identity profile] death-of-hope.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hello." Anemone tilted her head as she studied the boy. "I am Anemone. What is your name?"
