Lawn in front of the dorms, Thursday after first period

Eight inches? Jude didn't know imperial very well, but that just sounded insane.

So there was only one thing to do, one logical course of action to follow. The resurrection of a proud Fandom High tradition (hey, he'd done it once before, hadn't he?).

So now, Jude was standing in front of the dorms in his Awesome suit, jacket and skateboard nearby, holding aloft a sign that said simply, 'FREE HUGS'. A stack of similar signs was at his feet.

[[I have to go have blood tests done soon, but post is open for hugs and for people to grab a sign and join in.]]

"Yeah, killing the principal might be bad," he agreed with an unmellow frown on his face. "C'mon, can you sit down?"

"I don't know," she said, holding on probably a little more than was necessary but hey, PDA. "I was gonna ask for a piggy-back ride but I don't know how I'd climb on like this."

The unmellow grew. "Okay, this totally has to be, like, illegal."

"It's my fault," Rikku said, shaking her head quickly. "I ... Hermione warned me that she did stuff like this. Like, cruel and stupid crap to people that ticked her off. And I sat there in her office and blew her off like 'oh, yeah, so what.'"

"Want me to stink bomb her office?"

"No," Rikku said quickly. "'Cause if she found out it was you she might ... yeah."

"Bra, I'm already gonna get in shit for this. I'll totally go down for you."

For. Not on. For.

Rikku stopped them abruptly and lowered her voice. "Hermione ... H-Hermione said something about ... s-someone having scars. A friend of hers. She's ... this is annoying, and it sucks, but I think she might hurt some people and ... and that better not be you."

Because then she would carve that bitch a new face.

"Oh, hey," Jude looked scared for a sec at her concern, pulling her close. "Bra, you can't let her scare you or she'll win. Scars will just make me more badass, right?" He was trying to cheer her up.

"And she'll never know it was me. I'll go in disguise."

"I'm not scared," Rikku said in a low voice, squeezing back. "I just know if she hurts you I'm gonna have to beat her to death with her own lungs, and you said I'm not allowed to kill her."

He chuckled. "Lungs are kinda squishy. You should use something else."

Okay, that got a giggle out of her. "You're awesome, you know that?"

She had her arms around his neck and was leaning in a little. "So, uh, we're already breaking the eight-inch rule. Think this counts as PDA?"

Okay, she didn't usually go for an audience, but there were rules to break, here.

"People keep tellin' me that."

Jude bent his head a bit, leaning closer. "Nah, I think we gotta go a little bit further."

Damn the Man, kiss the girl. Sounded about right to him.

"Hey, just so long as I don't miss class this time," she grinned, stretching up for a kiss. And trying to make him blush furiously. Because she was evil like that.

And he did blush, embarrassed but very happy.

"And I should probably go, since it's gonna take me forever to get there like this," she grumbled. "But, uh, I kinda had ... a favor to ask you. First."

"Favour?"

Jude would totally offer to carry her, but he knew that he didn't, uh, quite have the muscle mass to achieve this.

"Yeah," Rikku said, nodding quickly. "You're probably gonna be all 'bra, NO' but ... but just hear me out, okay?"

"O . . . kay . . ." he said uncertainly, starting to get worried.

Rikku took a deep breath, steeling herself. "While ... while I'm at class, I want you to make a phone call."

"To who?" he asked, bewildered.

"He's your best friend," she said softly. "He made a mistake. People make mistakes, yeah?"

"Oh. Him."

"Yeah." Rikku nodded. "Him."

She bit her lip. "You don't ... you don't gotta, you know, I'm not saying call and make up. I'm just saying call. And say whatever you feel like saying, and yell, or be mean, or anything, and then when you're done, let him say whatever he's gonna say, and when you're done listening to him, hang up. Even if he gets three words out and you go 'nope, don't wanna hear it.' That's ... that's all."

Jude was quiet for a moment, scuffing his toe in the grass.

". . . fine."
