Luke was in the common room surrounded by the ingredients to make sand cookies--and his cakensmoosher in case things got out of hand--frantically searching for the piece of flimsiplast that had the recipe on it.

He and Jo had a date to make cookies.

And Luke couldn't cook.

This shouldn't be a disaster. Really.

Artoo was in the corner with his video running. Artoo was an evil, evil droid.

"I know you don't," Jo said. "If you did, Mom and you would have to have words."

Luke laughed nervously. "I see that ending very, very badly for me."

"Well, she hasn't killed anyone yet," Jo said, reassuringly. Mostly because Ellen knew the right places to aim.

"It's the yet that has me worried," Luke said, looking around for more cooking supplies. He really wanted those cookies now.

"And she likes you," Jo added. "That counts for a lot."

Luke beamed. "I'm glad to hear it," he said. "Getting through the year with the rest of my limbs not cut off is kind of a goal of mine."

"Don't worry, Mom's not into the cut off limbs thing."

"How about the 'feeding annoying people to random animals' thing?" Luke checked. "It's been a strange year."

"Not that I'm aware of."

He grinned over at her. "Then we should be fine," he said. "You look good all...sparkly."

"Thanks," Jo said, blushing a little. "I'd say you look good like that...but you really don't."

"As long as I look better than Gavin," Luke said, stirring a new batch of butter and sugar industriously.

If not exactly using his hands.

"Much better than Gavin," Jo agreed, watching him stir.

"This doesn't freak you out," Luke noted, giving her a shy smile.

"It might if I were back home and I didn't know you," she admitted. "But, no, you don't."

"I can lift up things that are bigger, too," he said, sounding a little proud of himself, "but I'm not quite at glitter juggling yet."

Jo grinned. "Glitter juggling?"

"My father can make entire solar systems," Luke said. "I can make...a ball."

"Well, solar systems are balls," Jo pointed out. "Just a lot of little ones. So you're halfway there."

"It seems like it should be easier to lift little things, but when there's a lot of it--glitter, grains of sand, bits of sugar--it takes more concentration." Luke glanced at the recipe and began adding eggs. Without the shells.

Well...mostly.

"You know what they say," Jo said, making a note to be careful of eggshells. "Practice makes perfect."

Luke smiled ruefully at the bowl as moved out the pieces of eggshell. "Clearly I need more of it."

"Which you're getting."

"Show me how it's done?" Luke asked shyly. "I can read the recipe off."

"Sure," Jo said, smiling.
